Bernhard Langer was under no illusions after winning the PNC Championship alongside his son Jason, as he noted that the majority of fans in attendance wanted to see Tiger Woods and Charlie Woods lift the title for the first time.

Bernhard Langer is now a six-time winner of the PNC Championship. The 67-year-old holed a long eagle putt on the first play-off hole to overcome Tiger Woods and Charlie Woods in Florida.

Of course, so much of the attention was on Team Woods throughout the event. They had held the joint-lead after the opening round, while the youngster made his first ever hole in one on the fourth hole of the second round. Meanwhile, there were glimpses of the 15-time major champion’s brilliance.

But ultimately, it was the Langer’s who got to celebrate yet another win.

They made eight birdies on the back nine on Sunday to book themselves a place in the play-off. And one of the highlights came on the par five 14th where they managed to make a four.

The two-time Masters champion took advantage of the scramble rules to give himself a perfect lie in the sand, and hit a sumptuous driver. And following their victory, both members of Team Woods were full of praise for how good the veteran remains.

“It was awesome,” Charlie Woods said about Langer’s performance.

Tiger Woods replied: “It’s incredible, right?

“Speechless. He didn’t miss a shot out there,” Charlie added.

“The driver he hit out of the bunker on 14, that was one of the best shots I’ve ever seen,” Tiger said.

What Tiger Woods has previously said about Bernhard Langer

Woods has previously made no secret of his admiration for Langer. Of course, he is the greatest player in PGA Tour Champions history with 47 wins, with 12 senior majors also coming in that time.

Speaking in 2023, Woods noted that many do not realise how hard Langer has worked over such a long time.

“Seeing him play, it’s more than amazing. The fact that he’s able to do everything that he does with his neck and his back, and the fact that he still does it each and every day, he works out each and every day. I think that’s what most people don’t realise, it’s how you have longevity, you train each and every day and he does that. And he’s done that consistently,” he said.

So it is potentially fair to say that the 48-year-old probably would not have picked anyone else to lose out to in Florida.

And it would certainly be no surprise to see the two teams battling it out for the title once again next year.
