Tiger Woods has a big say on how the PGA Tour is run, due to his place on the Player Advisory Council.

Woods has enjoyed a fabulous and unrivalled career on the PGA Tour. With 82 wins to his name, including 15 major championships, he has more than earned his place at the top table in the PGA Tour boardroom.

The 50-year-old legend addressed the media on Tuesday ahead of the Genesis Invitational at Riviera.

The biggest line of the press conference was when Tiger Woods refused to rule out playing The Masters this year.

However, another interesting comment Tiger made concerned the proposed changes the PGA Tour have in place for a new schedule.

While it hasn’t been officially confirmed, it’s somewhat of an open secret that Brian Rolapp will operate a more condensed PGA Tour schedule from the 2027 season onwards.

It is believed that the new PGA Tour schedule will consist of around 20-22 tournaments from the start of the 2027 season.

Scarcity is the key word right now regarding the PGA Tour’s proposed plans for a new look schedule in 2027.

Woods was asked to explain why ‘less is going to be more’ for the PGA Tour in the future.

Yeah, we’re going to get more top players playing, Woods said.

We’re going to make it more competitive by having fewer cards, so that in itself is going to make it more competitive just to be out here.

Having Brooks come back, having Patrick Reed play as well as he is and committed to coming back to the TOUR, having Scottie as dominant as he has been, and to have Rory complete the Career Grand Slam, you have a lot of top players, but also you have a lot of youth that has come up during that time.

We’re trying to create opportunities for that turnover coming from the PGA TOUR-U or the Korn Ferry and trying to get more youth out here because eventually they’re going to take over the game.

So trying to create that opportunity, trying to create the right competitive model and the environment to foster that, that’s been the greater challenge of it all.

Tiger Woods comments on the PGA Tour schedule during his era

So why all the changes now?

Woods was asked what was wrong with the schedule that was in place during the bulk of his playing career.

The schedule was different, Woods insisted.

We played I think it was La Costa at the time, I think, as the Tournament of Champions. Ended sometime after Halloween. So that’s a 10-month span of golf. That was all part of the PGA TOUR.

There was at that time, November, December, I think it was considered the silly season. It was just a different landscape. We played on the TOUR for 10 months.

Had an opportunity to play some fun events, some different type of formatted events in November and December, or some of the players like myself would go down to Australia or South Africa and play on their Tour.

It was just a different landscape than it is now.

The landscape is definitely different now. However, whether the proposed new PGA Tour schedule will actually be successful or not remains to be seen.
