The DP World Tour’s flagship event is taking place this week at Wentworth with the BMW PGA Championship taking centre stage.
The BMW PGA Championship has an absolutely stacked leaderboard, with four of the players in Luke Donald‘s European Ryder Cup team inside the top-10 with one round remaining.
All eyes will obviously be on the likes of Viktor Hovland, Tyrrell Hatton and Ludvig Aberg on Sunday, as well as joint leaders Alex Noren and Adrien Saddier, of course.
It should be a fantastic final day of golf at Wentworth on Sunday afternoon.
So many players have huge amounts on the line, with one of the biggest prize funds on the DP World Tour on offer and livelihoods at stake as numerous players continue their fights to retain their cards.
Considering how poor the weather has been at times during the BMW PGA Championship, we have been treated to some special golf.
However, away from some of the scintillating golf that has been produced in Surrey, England, this week, one player endured an absolute disaster.
Six-time DP World Tour winner disqualified from the BMW PGA Championship
Marcel Siem made a big mistake during his first round of the DP World Tour’s flagship event on Thursday.
His rules violation, albeit completely unintentional, was something that even an amateur golfer would most likely not fall foul of.
Siem was really struggling on day one of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

The six-time DP World Tour winner carded an opening round of six-over par 78 at Wentworth on Thursday, and he didn’t get the chance to tee it up in round two.
That was because of a bizarre rules infraction which saw the German get disqualified.
He flared his tee shot well out to the right on his final hole of the day and as he believed there was out of bounds down that side of the fairway, he hit a provisional ball off the tee.
Siem could not find his original ball and made his way to his provisional. However, before he reached it, a spectator informed him that he had found his first ball.
The 45-year-old went over and found out that his original tee shot had ended up in an unplayable lie, so he picked it up and moved back to his provisional, before playing his shot towards the green.
However, the rules of golf state that provisional balls can only be used if your first tee shot is not found.
Marcel Siem’s disqualification at Wentworth explained
Siem should have either taken an unplayable lie drop for the penalty of one stroke or returned to the tee to play his third shot.
He clearly wasn’t thinking and with his mind frazzled, he made his way to the scorers tent and signed for a 78 after making what he thought was a six on his final hole of the day.
However, that clearly wasn’t the case and Siem was disqualified from the BMW PGA Championship.
What a totally bizarre mistake to make for a man with Siem’s experience of playing professionally at the very highest level.
It has been a pretty dismal 2025 season for Siem, with just three top-10 finishes and only 13 made cuts to his name in the 20 events he has played.
His disqualification at Wentworth would have rubbed salt into his wounds.
