The Open Championship is done and dusted for another year, after a terrific week of golf at Royal Portrush.

World number one Scottie Scheffler emerged victorious at The Open in the end, after a relentless demonstration of excellence.

Royal Portrush presented a fairly simple test for the best players in the world, what with the benign weather conditions all week.

Scheffler was totally dominant at The Open, as he has been in the game of golf in general over the past 15 months or so.

Sungjae Im ended up in a tie for 52nd, after a disappointing final round of 75.

The world number 28 is known as an ATM on tour, due to the sheer amount of weeks he plays and the cuts that he makes.

But how did his caddie get on when playing Royal Portrush the day after The Open finished?

What Sungjae Im’s caddie shot around Royal Portrush the day after The Open

Willy Wilcox is an extraordinarily popular face out on the PGA Tour.

That’s due to his happy go lucky attitude and the struggles that he has experienced in his life previously, but we will go into that later.

He was fortunate enough to play Portrush the day after The Open finished.

Wilcox, a former PGA Tour player, played The Open venue from ‘slightly shorter tees’ than the pros on Monday, after the weather had turned.

He posted a round of four-over par 75, not bad at all with the wind and rain that settled in over Royal Portrush on Monday.

Who is Sungjae Im’s caddie, Willy Wilcox?

Amazingly, the 39-year-old used to play on the PGA Tour, and competed in 72 events before retiring in order to caddie.

He qualified for the FedEx Cup playoffs in 2015, and won four times as a professional – once on the Korn Ferry Tour.

However, he gave up the game in the end as an incapacitating drug addiction began to take hold of him.

He got sober in 2022 after attending rehab before slipping up once again following a car accident.

However, he then put down the drugs again and began caddying for Sungjae at the 2023 US Open at the LA Country Club.

The 39-year-old knew the world number 28 from their days playing on the Korn Ferry Tour together.

Despite Wilcox’s checkered past with addiction, he seems to be living a very happy and fulfilling life now by walking the fairways with Sungjae.

Best of luck to both Wilcox and his man Sungjae moving forward.
