Johnson Wagner believes the PGA Tour could be set to make a huge change moving forward which would really appeal to golf fans.
However, certain players like Rickie Fowler may not be too pleased about the potential PGA Tour change.
Fowler was a huge star on the PGA Tour a decade ago, but his stock has fallen recently, despite the fact that he’s still a big draw with the fans.
Meanwhile, the PGA Tour has continued to evolve and change, with new stars coming onto the scene every single year.
However, with Brian Rolapp having recently taken over as the new PGA Tour CEO, even bigger innovations are expected to be implemented next season.
Now one particular change has been suggested, in order to make the PGA Tour a genuine meritocracy.
PGA Tour predicted to make big change which the fans will love
With Rolapp now leading the organization, the PGA Tour are set to make some changes ahead of the 2026 season.
Rolapp insisted he is not afraid to make changes, and Johnson Wagner has urged him to make one very specific one.

Wagner was speaking on the Trey Wingo Podcast about the current state of the PGA Tour.
He responded when asked what key change he thinks the Tour needs to make.
Wagner said: “As I look at it from the media perspective, it’s completely different from how I look at it from a former player perspective.
“I’m looking out for these guys trying to get to the Tour. There are more players trying to play professional golf now and we’re shrinking spots and shrinking avenues to get to the top of the game.
“I think what we’re going to see on the PGA Tour is the Fall Series to get phased out and you know what, it may be nice for the golf fan to miss the sport for a while.
“I feel like the fan never has the opportunity to miss the sport for a little bit because there’s a tournament every single week.
“I think the fan would love it. From a player’s side, if the PGA Tour is going to go down that route, they’re going to need to build up that Korn Ferry Tour, because you’re going to start to see a lot of big-name players going back to get their cards.
“That Tour needs to be strengthened and that could be the Tour for avid golf fans to watch every single week.“
Johnson Wagner makes Rickie Fowler point regarding PGA Tour field sizes
Wagner made a great point about Fowler when highlighting how the PGA Tour should mix things up moving forward.
While getting rid of the Fall Series would be good news for the fans, the same can’t be said for those in and around the top 100 on the FedEx Cup points list.
He said: “I think field sizes need to be 100-man field. 20 weeks plus the majors. Play big purses, and all 100 players who keep their cards play in those events.
“Of those 100 who play in those events, maybe the top 70 keep their cards then 15 from DP World and 15 from Korn Ferry get their cards.
“So a guy like Rickie Fowler, who last year was outside the top 100, he would then have to go back down to that Korn Ferry Tour.
“Then you’d have a really interesting secondary tour and you’d have the top 100 players playing week in, week out, with some churn, with some changeover, having those 30 fresh people coming in every year.“
Wagner is, of course, talking about the 2024 PGA Tour season when Fowler finished in 108th spot on the FedEx Cup points list in the regular season and ended up in 101st after the Fall Series.
If the PGA Tour implemented Wagner’s suggestion, Fowler would have had to play on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2025 in order to try and win back his card.
If Brian Rolapp truly wants a meritocracy, perhaps that is the way forward for the PGA Tour.
