The Tour Championship is into its third day now but after what happened on day two at East Lake, the PGA Tour are once again being called out by golf fans.
With East Lake already not proving to be too difficult a test for the world’s elite, things were made even easier on day two.
With receptive greens already helping and the course itself at East Lake not the most challenging on TOUR, things got even easier as the day went on.
That’s because despite conditions not being overly bad, the PGA Tour/USGA decided that preferred lies – or lift, clean and place – would be in play for day two.
This led to a number of players going low, as Tommy Fleetwood and Russell Henley moved to -13, while even all the way down in 20th, Maverick McNealy is five-under par.
Now, because of this decision, golf fans are not happy and they’ve made their feelings more than known on social media.

Golf fans slam the PGA Tour for ‘joke’ decision at the Tour Championship
The rules of golf are there to help the players really and more often than not, the preferred lies ruling is very much necessary.
However, it just feels like the TOUR went early on this one and in the end, players were effectively playing target practice as they made their way around.
Indeed, it wasn’t lost on golf fans either, who criticised things.
Another fan followed a similar opinion, suggesting that those in charge need to get a grip.
“Ask Rolapp if they ever thought about playing the Super Bowl as a flag football game. Supposedly one of the TOUR’s biggest tournaments of the year and the PFs can’t handle some mud balls? Sad!”
The criticism continued, with fans calling the tournament and decision a ‘joke’, ‘ridiculous’ and ‘pathetic’ among other things.
Indeed, another fan even suggested it should never happen, especially with the best in the world.
“Pros should never play preferred lies, we wouldn’t even do this with our friends in a casual round It ruins the game”
It seems, then, that the PGA Tour have dropped the ball here and with the Tour Championship already coming under scrutiny for its format, this hasn’t helped at all.
PGA Tour under pressure at East Lake
The PGA Tour will never be able to please everyone but there have been some issues with this latest tournament.
As well as the complaints here about the preferred lies scenario, fans also called the TOUR out after Rory McIlroy was rescued by a grandstand.
On its own, the issue with McIlroy is not too big of a deal but throw it in with the preferred lies issue and the fact that some feel East Lake is too easy already, and the TOUR faces more bad press.
