Scottie Scheffler might be bulldozing his way through the field in the final round at The Travelers but in his third round this weekend, the world number one very much proved he was human after all.
We’ve all become so used to seeing Scheffler win at a canter in the last few years that when he does make a mistake or two, it’s actually surprising.
Scheffler has been in fine form the last few months in particular and won the PGA Championship and The Memorial to once again enhance his resume.
Right now, he’s undoubtedly the world’s best player and in the midst of his final round, Scheffler is very much chasing down the leaders again.
However, when it came to an element of normality in Scheffler’s world, he showed everyone just how normal he can be on the golf course during round three.

Scottie Scheffler does something not seen for 300 days
There’s a strange sense of satisfaction about seeing the best players in the world look like us mere mortals.
Oftentimes, a shanked drive, a missed putt from a yard or two or even a duffed chip can bring the amateur golfer a great sense of relief.
Indeed, in round three at The Travelers, it was Scottie Scheffler’s turn to make us all feel better as he made a triple bogey on the opening hole to get his day off to the worst possible start.
Scheffler made a complete pig’s ear of things out of the sand, before then seeing a chip roll back to the rough around the green. He then took his medicine out of said rough, before making a triple.
Remarkably for Scheffler, it was his first triple bogey in nearly a whole year, with it being 300 days since he’d last had one.

Scottie Scheffler’s class is obvious even after making a triple
For most players in the world, making a triple bogey on the opening hole in a round would be enough to send them into meltdown.
With golf being so mentally challenging, a lot of players would see that as the beginning of the end and just plod around.
However, most people aren’t in Scottie Scheffler’s league and the fact he got round to stay in contention for the tournament and then in round four, has put himself actually into the mix, shows his brilliance.
Scheffler’s mental resilience has been praised so often this season but this time it really does need shouting out.
Furthermore, the fact he’d gone 300 days without a triple bogey is impressive in itself. In fact, it’s bordering on quite remarkable.
