The ‘insane’ Matt McCarty achievement in 2024 which was more impressive than his Black Desert Championship win

Matt McCarty remarkably marked his second start since earning his PGA Tour card by winning the Black Desert Championship by three shots in Utah over the weekend.

Matt McCarty capitalised on an opening round of 62 at the Black Desert Championship to secure his maiden PGA Tour title. The 26-year-old moved himself into the top 100 in the FedEx Cup fall standings with his victory.

But McCarty is no stranger to winning in 2024. The left-hander earned his PGA Tour card by becoming only the 13th player in Korn Ferry Tour history to win three times in a single season earlier this year. And he has already opened his account on the bigger stage.

Stephan Jaeger said what McCarty had done on the Korn Ferry Tour was ‘pretty incredible’. And he is not the only person to have been blown away by what he has achieved.

Speaking on the No Laying Up Podcast, Tron Carter shared what has really amazed him about McCarty’s year, even after he got across the line at the Black Desert Resort.

“I think the most impressive stat that you can give about Matt McCarty this year, the guy won $1 million on the Korn Ferry Tour – this year. Do you know how hard that is to do? That’s insane,” he said.

The next steps after his maiden PGA Tour victory

McCarty definitely had a fantastic opportunity having already secured his status for the 2025 season on the PGA Tour. There were further incentives for winning last week, including earning a spot at The Masters next year, but he was not one of those in the field in Utah fighting just to save his card.

McCarty has now moved into the top 50 in the world rankings for the first time.

It has been an incredible year for the youngster, but he will know that there are plenty of further challenges ahead even after winning on the PGA Tour. Taking that next step and becoming a regular fixture in the signature events is potentially the next accolade McCarty will be looking at.

Based on how he has played in 2024, he can surely be very optimistic about what he may be able to do over the coming months.
