Of course, following the US Open earlier this year, many golf fans may be largely focused on the battle between Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau heading into The Showdown on Tuesday.

What happened at Pinehurst in June will be as well remembered for Rory McIlroy‘s three bogeys in the final four holes as it will for Bryson DeChambeau‘s triumph. And it has certainly made the build-up to The Showdown even more exciting, with the Northern Irishman having the potential to exact just a little revenge at Shadow Creek.

But McIlroy is not the only player on Team PGA Tour DeChambeau has some notable history with.

Heading into the 2021 Ryder Cup, Scottie Scheffler appeared to be something of a wildcard for the American team. He was the lowest ranked player in the qualification standings, while he had not won on the PGA Tour ahead of Whistling Straits. Nevertheless, Steve Stricker picked him for his side.

What Scottie Scheffler said about partnering Bryson DeChambeau in 2021

The decision would prove to be inspired as Scheffler won 2.5 points from three matches, and made a real statement as he beat Jon Rahm in the Sunday singles to help USA to a record victory.

And it was DeChambeau who Scheffler was partnered with for the opening two days. DeChambeau was one of the stars of that Ryder Cup – hitting a 417 drive at one stage – and Scheffler was asked what it was like to watch him. Perhaps look away now, Rory McIlroy.

“I must say it’s more fun when I’m on his team than when I’m playing against him. It’s great. It’s really fun to watch. The guy is really talented, and couldn’t imagine a better partner,” he said.

How Scheffler and DeChambeau fared at Whistling Straits

Stricker’s side lost just four matches over the first two days in Wisconsin. That meant that they were able to coast across the line to regain the trophy. And DeChambeau and Scheffler were two of those who went unbeaten.

They tied their match with Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton on the Friday afternoon, while they beat Tommy Fleetwood and Viktor Hovland on Saturday as the home side put one hand firmly on the trophy.

Scheffler will hope that McIlroy proves to be an even better partner in Las Vegas this week. However, perhaps it may be something Keegan Bradley may be keeping in mind with DeChambeau almost certainly set to make his Ryder Cup return in 2025.
