Bryson DeChambeau is now undoubtedly one of the biggest names and most popular faces in the game of golf, with the 31-year-old surely proving to be LIV Golf’s biggest success story.
Of course, Bryson DeChambeau is a two-time major champion. And the scenes around the 18th hole after he won the US Open at Pinehurst earlier this year showed just how beloved the Crushers GC captain has become.
However, it has not always been that way for DeChambeau.
DeChambeau has come in for all kinds of criticism over the years, and it was some time before he established himself as one of the best players on the planet. While he won on the PGA Tour for the first time in 2017, it was only towards the end of 2019 when DeChambeau started to become a superstar.
Bryson DeChambeau suggests the one shot from his career he’d like to take back
With that, he would perhaps be forgiven for having a few shots in his career he wishes he could take back. However, speaking in a Break 50 challenge with Tom Brady on his YouTube channel, DeChambeau shared just the one shot he would love to have again if given the opportunity.
“There is really not too many because I learned from all of them but if I could change a single situation, it would have to be 2021, Caves Valley against Patrick Cantlay,” he said.

“That six hole play off, I had a five footer to beat him and I missed a five footer to close and slam that door. That was the most embarrassed I have ever felt on a golf course. I felt everyone was behind me, even though there was some controversy, everyone was behind me and I missed the five footer and everyone was like ‘ooooh’. I remember hearing that and feeling that and it was the biggest embarrassment I have had on the golf course.”
How DeChambeau was beaten after a near-historic week at the BMW Championship
DeChambeau and Patrick Cantlay had taken themselves away from the field ahead of the final round of the BMW Championship three years ago.
The highlight of DeChambeau’s week came as he shot 60 on Friday. Unfortunately, he made a par on the final two holes of the day to miss out on posting the 13th round of 59 or better on the PGA Tour.
But Cantlay would not go away. Just one shot separated the pair over the weekend to ensure that they ended up in a play-off. And they would both birdie the fifth play-off hole before Cantlay ended up winning it on the 18th.
You can understand why that disappointment lingered with DeChambeau. He did not win for the rest of 2021 or throughout 2022, with the streak only ending as he posted 58 at LIV Golf Greenbrier in 2023.
