With the PGA Tour constantly looking for its next big stars of the game, it looks like teenage sensation Blades Brown might be the next to step up to the mark.
17-year-old Brown is making his PGA Tour debut at The American Express this week and he’s already caught the eye by impressing in his three rounds.
With the AMEX being unique in having three rounds before a cut line, Brown unfortunately didn’t make it into the final round as he shot a two over par third round to miss the cut.
Still, while his third round wasn’t the best, it was his second round on Friday that has actually put his name into the PGA Tour records book.

How Blades Brown got himself into the PGA Tour record books
Every so often, we see a teenager who comes along and lights up the golf course. And on Friday, that’s exactly what Blades Brown did.
Brown carded a quite brilliant eight under par second round on Friday, giving him a score of 64 and in doing so, putting himself above Justin Thomas in the PGA Tour record books.
In a statistic shared by Justin Ray, Brown now has the lowest round recorded by a teenager on the PGA Tour in 40 years.
Brown’s effort sees him surpass both Justin Thomas and Tony Finau, who shot 65s at the ages of 16 and 17 respectively.
The PGA Tour’s youngest golfers as Blades Brown makes history
While at 17, Blades Brown is very much an young and up and coming golfer, he’s still some way off being the youngest to play a PGA Tour event.
In fact, we saw just last week how 16-year-old Mao Matsuyama was involved in the Sony Open.
| Youngest PGA Tour players | Age at time of playing |
| Don Dunkelberger | 11 years, 11 months |
| Guan Tianlang | 14 years, 5 months |
| Bob Panasik | 15 years, 8 months |
| Tadd Fujikawa | 16 years, 4 days |
| Justin Thomas | 16 years, 2 months, 23 days |
| Matteo Manassero | 16 years, 2 months, 28 days |
| Ty Tyron | 16 years, 9 months, 7 days |
Still, while that list of young players is impressive, Brown is now out on his own in terms of being in the record books and it will take some doing to knock him off that perch.
Furthermore, Brown is expected to be a player to watch in the coming years, with the eyes of America already firmly on him and his future.
