Scottie Scheffler might be the main man for Team USA going into this week’s Presidents Cup but Smylie Kaufman has suggested there’s another player on the team who could outscore him.

Scheffler goes into the tournament as the best player in the world and off the back of a record breaking and memorable year.

Alongside Xander Schauffele for Team USA, Scheffler has effectively dominated the sport this year and both Scheffler and Schauffele will be expected to deliver big points this week.

However, this is a stacked Team USA picked by Jim Furyk and according to Smylie Kaufman, it could be another player outside of Scheffler and Schauffele who leads the way.

Smylie Kaufman tips Collin Morikawa to play a huge role at the Presidents Cup

Speaking on the latest episode of The Smylie Show podcast, Kaufman got onto the subject of players who could be big for Team USA.

And in doing so, he believes Collin Morikawa could be the man to beat for the US.

“Collin really struggled at the Ryder Cup this past year. We saw what he did this year,” Kaufman commented.

“I think he will be on a mission to really prove that he can be not only a leader of this team as far as what he does on the golf course, but really compete with being the highest points scorer of the whole deal.

“I think Collin Morikawa could be the guy you could send out against their best and expect to make it a point.”

Morikawa’s form suggests he’s the man for Team USA

The season might have ended without a win for Collin Morikawa but there was enough on display from him to suggest he’s nearly back to his brilliant best.

A former major winner, Morikawa knows how to win on the big stage and but for Scheffler’s brilliance, he’d have won the Tour Championship a few weeks back.

Morikawa, then, could very much end up being a bit of a wildcard for Team USA and as Kaufman suggests, he could go out against the big boys from the International Team.

If someone does beat Morikawa, then that will suggest things are going pretty well for Mike Weir’s men in Montreal.
