Sungjae Im struggled to a round of 73 on day three of the Wyndham Championship on Saturday.

The round of three-over par came somewhat out of the blue for Sungjae, after he carded back-to-back rounds of 64 on Thursday and Friday at the Wyndham Championship.

Sungjae Im still holds the record of most birdies in a PGA Tour event, after he made 34 at the 2024 Sentry in Hawaii.

So he knows how to go low. Unfortunately for him, day three at the Wyndham was a real struggle for him from start to finish.

The 27-year-old PGA Tour player triple-bogeyed his second hole of the day and made two birdies and two bogeys after that before signing for a miserable 73.

It seems his day was so bad that he did something his caddie has never seen him do once in more than two years carrying his bag.

However, things went south quickly for the South Korean, when he made a triple bogey on the second hole at Sedgefield Country Club.

Sungjae blocked his first tee shot so far right and it finished up out of bounds, so he had to hit three from the tee.

The 27-year-old’s caddie – the well-known Willy Wilcox – took to social media platform X to respond to his employer’s incredibly rare slip-up.

Only ball he’s hit OB in the 27 months I’ve caddied for him.

Im is well-known for being a really solid driver of the golf ball.

So the fact his drive on the second hole of the Wyndham Championship on Saturday was the first ball he’s hit out of bounds in 27 months is no surprise really.

Sungjae Im’s 2025 PGA Tour stats

The man from South Korea is a very solid operator.

However, there is one glaring weakness in his game that has continually plagued him on tour this season.

StatsSungjae’s rank
Strokes gained off the tee23rd
Strokes gained approach175th
Strokes gained around the green3rd
Strokes gained putting78th
Strokes gained total96th

It’s clear to see from those stats what Sungjae Im’s weakness is, and it clearly isn’t the way he drives the golf ball!

If he is to add to his two career PGA Tour wins, he needs to improve his iron play as a matter of urgency.

Interestingly though, it was Sungjae’s strength that suddenly became his weakness during round three of the Wyndham Championship on Saturday.
