The excitement around the Ryder Cup is building day by day, with the showdown at Bethpage Black now just six weeks away.
Keegan Bradley – the US Ryder Cup captain – has some huge decisions to make between now and the end of next month.
Firstly, the 39-year-old from Vermont will have to decide whether or not to pick himself for the 45th edition of the Ryder Cup.
Many of the US team are expected to tell Bradley that they want him to play at the Ryder Cup.

However, Bradley’s form has dipped since his win at the Travelers Championship in June, with a T-30, T-41 and T-44 finishes along with a missed cut in the four events that he has played.
The other factor why Bradley may find it difficult to pick himself is the amount of players currently outside the top 12 in the standings who have shown some real form over the past month or so, namely Cameron Young and Chris Gotterup.
Keegan Bradley has tough Ryder Cup decision – Cameron Young or Chris Gotterup
Young won two weeks ago at the Wyndham Championship while Gotterup was victorious at the Scottish Open in July before finishing third at The Open Championship.
Young is currently ranked in 14th position in the standings while Gotterup is down in 21st.
A win for either of them over the final two weeks of the season would surely seal their place on the team.
Sands was asked if late season wins for the likes of Young and Gotterup make it harder for Bradley to pick himself for the US team at Bethpage Black.
He said: “I think so, although the pedigree and the past doesn’t say that.
“In 2014, Billy Horschel was the hottest player on the PGA Tour, and did not get taken. He won a couple of events including the BMW Championship, did not make the team at Gleneagles. By the way, the United States lost, not that it would have made a difference perhaps, but he was the hottest player and did not get picked.

“Go back to a couple of years ago in Rome. Lucas Glover won two weeks in a row on the PGA Tour, he was left off the team.
“In my opinion, if I was the captain, I would take a player who is hot but also knowing there are about four or five weeks to go before the Ryder Cup, so maybe that heat cools down a little bit.
“Let’s say Cameron Young wins this week and he makes it to the Tour Championship and he plays well in Atlanta, how do you leave him off the team?
“If I was a captain, I certainly would take a hot player. Gotterup had a really great chance after he got that win in Scotland. He then went third at The Open. The following week at the 3M Open, he had a chance on Sunday to win. If he wins that, I think he would have an amazing chance to be on the team. He has cooled down a touch, so I wouldn’t think Gotterup will be looked upon by Keegan Bradley maybe as closely as a Cameron Young would be.“
Chris Gotterup vs Cameron Young 2025 PGA Tour season stats
Gotterup and Young endured difficult starts to 2025, but both players have been in fine form over the past month.

Both players have proven that they’re clutch under pressure – an absolute necessity for Ryder Cup selection.
However, how do their numbers stack up against one another?
Here are the two players’ stats from the 2025 PGA Tour season compared against each other:
| Stats | Gotterup’s rank | Young’s rank |
| Off the tee | 7th | 35th |
| Approach | 106th | 138th |
| Around the green | 63rd | 117th |
| Scrambling | 17th | 113th |
| Putting | 87th | 7th |
| Total | 32nd | 38th |
| Money earned | $3,981,637 | $5,471,646 |
Young’s putting has been superior to Gotterup’s this season but the latter has driven the ball much better than the former.
It really is a toss of a coin right now as to which player Bradley will pick to represent Team USA at the Ryder Cup in September.
It may well come down to who performs better at the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship over the next two weeks.
