It is probably still sinking in for Stacy Lewis that she has now won the Solheim Cup as both a player and a captain after her side’s triumph at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club earlier this month.
USA clinched the Solheim Cup on another dramatic final day in Gainesville, with the home side holding off a spirited European fightback to get themselves across the line for their first victory since 2017.
The 15.5-12.5 scoreline perhaps does not do justice to how close Suzann Pettersen‘s side came to producing an unbelievable comeback, but it certainly does not tell the story of the American dominance over the first two days either.
Led by Nelly Korda, USA were leading 6-2 after the opening day and they lost neither session on Saturday when they would have known that Europe would have a massive point to prove. In fact, the only session Lewis’ side were beaten in all week came in the Sunday singles, with the visitors taking one more point.
Stacy Lewis asked about captaining US Solheim Cup team again
For many American fans, it would have been particularly satisfying to see Lewis win the Solheim Cup after 2023’s event in Spain had ended in a tie. In fact, while Europe retained the trophy at Finca Cortesin, Lewis is technically unbeaten in her two goes as captain.
So could the 39-year-old stay on for Netherlands in two years? Speaking on the Inside the LPGA Podcast, Lewis was asked whether she may end up leading the team again in the future.

“Well, I’d have a hard time saying no if I was asked, I would say that. I do think we have people ready to do it now, but I’d have a hard time saying no if I was asked to do it again, just because it was so much fun. I loved every part of it,” she said.
Unfinished business in Europe
There is always such a fine balancing act when selecting captains. Certainly, it is hard to imagine that the players will have any issue at all with Lewis staying on for 2026. But, as she suggests, there are other names who will hope to be in the frame.
Morgan Pressel and Angela Stanford have been backed to take over after serving as vice-captains. Meanwhile, perhaps it would not be a surprise if Lexi Thompson was a contender for one of the next few Solheim Cups as her retirement from a full-time schedule looms.
But Lewis’ response hints that she feels that she has unfinished business in Europe. It will have been more than a decade since the US have won the Solheim Cup across the pond by the time the first tee shot is hit in Cromvoirt.
You would definitely imagine that the Europeans will initially feel a little happier if the US team turns to someone else.
