If the Internationals are going to have any chance of winning the Presidents Cup for only the second time ever in the coming days, you would imagine that team spirit is going to play such a huge role for Mike Weir’s men as they go into Royal Montreal as underdogs.
The Presidents Cup has been incredibly one-sided over the years, with the International team winning once in 14 attempts and also tying in 2003. But Weir’s men will relish being written off by many as they prepare for the latest event in Canada.
There was something special about how the International team fought back from a nightmare start two years ago, with USA leading 8-2 after the first two days at Quail Hollow.
Of course, the drama started long before the opening tee shot in Charlotte, with Cameron Smith and Joaquin Niemann jumping to LIV Golf. That cost Trevor Immelman two of his top four qualifiers for the events.
Si-woo Kim reacts to Min Woo Lee’s brilliant video
But adversity has helped bring this International team together. Few will forget the match Si-woo Kim and Tom Kim won against Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay on Saturday evening in 2022 as the visitors fought their way back to 11-7 down heading into the singles.
It was not to be on that occasion, but there is plenty to be optimistic about this time around – with some fresh blood joining the team. And there are few players who are likely to excite the crowd quite like Min Woo Lee, with the Australian finishing ninth in the qualification standings.

The 26-year-old appears to be enjoying his first taste of the Presidents Cup, although Si-woo Kim may not be best pleased with what he has posted from the team bus.
The Chef is incredibly popular on social media, so it was no surprise that he seemed to spot an opportunity when noticing Kim asleep. Kim’s response on Instagram is also absolutely outstanding…

An exciting glimpse of the Internationals’ future in the Presidents Cup
It does appear that the Americans will be overwhelming favourites, with three of the four majors this year won by players on their side. But if they are not at their best this week – Scottie Scheffler‘s record in the Presidents Cup is poor right now – the Internationals do have the talent to cause them some real problems.
And what should encourage Weir’s successor is the fact that Lee and Kim are two of their four players in their 20s. Meanwhile, Jason Day and Adam Scott are the only players over the age of 33. So there is so much potential within the ranks.
Whatever happens, it appears inevitable that the Internationals will play a lot of exciting golf over the coming days.
