The harsh reality of professional golf came full throttle at Shane Lowry as he endured a miserable few days at the Spanish Open to miss the weekend’s action.
Lowry was battling hard in round two after carding a terrible opening round of 75 in Madrid.
The Irishman fought well, carding a 68 for his second round as he made five birdies throughout a topsy-turvy second day in Spain.
However, in the end, it wasn’t enough for Lowry, who finished at one over par to miss the cut by a single shot and endure heartbreak in his first event since the Ryder Cup.
For Lowry, it very much showed how golf can give you the big ups and then bring you down in an instant.
Now, after missing the line, Lowry has shared his thoughts on social media.

Shane Lowry reacts on social media after missing the cut at the Spanish Open
Like any pro golfer, missing the cut is the nightmare scenario and after the high of Bethpage Black, it was back down to earth with a bump.
However, Lowry remained in positive spirits on his Instagram page as he shared some thoughts on missing the cut and ultimately, not making the weekend.
“Gutted to miss the cut but gave it my all today after a slow start. Great to spend a couple of days with Rahmbo & Ángel at their national open. National opens are the best and the @openespana didn’t disappoint this week. Thanks to all the fans who came out to support. I definitely felt the love this week,” Lowry wrote.

A Ryder Cup hangover for Shane Lowry?
Golf is hard and it’s not exactly abnormal to miss the cut at certain events.
The course in Madrid presented a tough challenge that was much different to the one at Bethpage Black and in the end, it got the better of Lowry.
Signs of a ‘hangover’ of sorts were there for Lowry in the opening round but he showed what he’s all about as a player and a character with that second round 68.
For Lowry, the key now is to keep some form of momentum going and finish what has been an excellent year on a high.
