Shane Lowry was overshadowed by Scottie Scheffler in the first two rounds at The Open Championship.
Lowry had high expectations coming into the week because he won the last Open at Royal Portrush in 2019 by an incredible six strokes.
Unfortunately, the Irishman was not in the same form on Thursday and Friday, while his playing partner performed like an Open champion instead.
Scheffler was three under par on day one and seven under on day two, and now holds a one-shot lead over Matthew Fitzpatrick heading into the weekend.
Lowry made an interesting comment about the world number one in his latest press conference.

Shane Lowry comments on playing partner Scottie Scheffler after two rounds at The Open
A reporter at Royal Portrush was midway through asking Lowry a question about being in contention at The Open when he was interrupted.
Lowry was harshly awarded a two-stroke penalty for accidentally moving his golf ball during a practice swing on the 12th hole.
This relegated him from two under to even par, and effectively ended his hopes of winning the Claret Jug again, but the Irishman suggested he had no chance anyway.
“Eight shots behind Scottie Scheffler isn’t in the fringes of contention the way he’s playing,” he replied.
At least Lowry could take some positives from playing well in the last few holes, ensuring he made the cut at Royal Portrush.
“Yeah, I played great on the way in, hit some nice shots,” he added. “Left it on the lip on 16 and 18, missed a good chance on 17, so it could have been different.
“But yeah, look, it’s a disappointing thing to happen to me, but that’s golf. Onwards and upwards, and give it a run this weekend.”

Shane Lowry needs to reproduce his 2019 Open Championship performance
Lowry was then reminded that he shot a new course record 63 on Saturday at the 2019 Open Championship.
“Yeah, look, we’ll see what the weather brings and see what happens tomorrow,” he explained.
“But I’ll go out there, I’ll be a little bit earlier than I thought I was going to be. I’m going to miss the Lions game now, which is disappointing. And yeah, I’ll just do my best.”
With Scheffler at 10 under par, Lowry will probably need to shoot a 63 again to have any chance on Sunday.
