Shane Lowry battled back in fine fashion on the final day at The Open and he’s now admitted it’s time to turn his full focus towards the Ryder Cup.

Lowry produced on the final day with a fine round of five under to shoot up the leaderboard and show his mettle once again.

The Irishman has had an up and down week at Royal Portrush, with Lowry’s tournament dominated by his two shot penalty in the second round.

Lowry was looking to win his second Open title at the same venue but like so many, has come up short and must now prepare for the rest of the season.

Indeed, with the Ryder Cup coming up in September in what could be one of the most boisterous crowds we’ve ever seen in New York, Lowry knows that preparation is key.

Now, with major season done and dusted, Lowry has admitted it’s all eyes on Bethpage.

Shane Lowry makes Ryder Cup prediction after finishing The Open

For Shane Lowry, winning a Ryder Cup in the USA will be right up there in terms of career achievements.

Of all the European players, Lowry is one who will relish any hostility from the American crowds and will no doubt give as good as he gets.

Still, Lowry believes that while things are being talked up for New York, things may well turn out to be nowhere near as bad as suggested.

“We’ve talked about it. There’s no doubt we’ve talked about it. It’s still ongoing, and you have to figure out ways to deal with certain stuff. It might not be as bad as people say,” Lowry suggested after his final round at Portrush.

“People say it will be bad, but we’ll see. I think, if you’re prepared for something, you’ll deal with it okay. When something happens and you’re not prepared for it, that’s when it gets hard.”

Shane Lowry explains why his focus is now on the Ryder Cup

With major season now done, the two biggest events in golf are going to be the FedEx Cup race and then the Ryder Cup.

Team Europe go to the USA knowing they’ve got a great chance of winning on American soil.

Lowry will be key to the team once again and speaking about his focus, the Irishman has explained just why he’s so concentrated on Bethpage.

“Yeah, it is. Obviously I would have liked to do better this week, there’s no doubt about that. But it is what it is. I tried my best. I gave it everything I could, and it wasn’t to be. For me now the next two months — obviously the playoffs are huge, but my focus and my work will be getting out of bed every morning to prepare for hopefully going to Bethpage and winning that Ryder Cup. It’s a big thing for us Europeans, and it’s a big thing for me. Major season is over now, so everything turns towards the Ryder Cup,” Lowry continued.

Pressed on just where it would rank in his career in terms of getting another win, Lowry admitted it would be right up there with his major win.

“Yeah, it would be up there with everything else. I think — I’m not sure; I can’t speak for other players, but personally I put it way up there preparing, getting ready, trying to make the team, trying to go there and win. There’s probably not many days go by that I don’t think about it. I think, yeah, it would be up there, and I would love to do something like that.”

With just two months until tee off at Bethpage, Lowry already seems super focused and like the rest of Luke Donald’s team, seems determined to win out.
