Shane Lowry is very well placed after two rounds of the DP India World Championship, but things could have been so much better for him had he avoided a self proclaimed ‘stupid’ mistake.

Lowry‘s form since May has generally been really poor, aside from his heroics in the Sunday singles at the Ryder Cup.

Now he will be looking to finish off his season with a flourish, by winning the DP World India Championship.

Lowry enjoyed his DP World India Championship pairing alongside Tommy Fleetwood and Luke Donald.

And Lowry loves the India Championship golf course as well, due to the premium placed on finding fairways off the tee.

11-under for two rounds is a fine effort from the 38-year-old Irishman, but he clearly feels like he could be even better placed heading into the weekend.

Shane Lowry admits he made a ‘stupid’ mistake at the India Championship

Lowry carded four birdies and a bogey during his second round at Delhi Golf Club on Friday morning.

So perhaps it’s no surprise that his frustration stemmed from the solitary bogey, on a par five no less.

Lowry was asked if he was pleased with his second round 69 in India.

He said: Yeah, I got off to a bit of a slow-ish start. Not much happened on the front nine, and then I made a stupid bogey on the par 5 from the middle of the fairway. Quite frustrated around the turn. But I felt like I finished well, and I played some nice golf on the way in.

Yeah, the course is there for the taking if you hit good shots, but if you hit it offline it’s very, very tricky. Yeah, I’m happy with my two days’ work.

The Irishman was then asked whether he plans to be more aggressive over the weekend at Delhi Golf Club.

Lowry responded by saying: No, I think you need to play this golf course the way you see it. There’s a lot of holes where you’re not hitting much off the tee and you’re trying to get it in play and that’s why I think it suits me. There’s a lot of mid-irons out there which is a strength of my game. Play to my strengths this week, and hopefully I can be dangerous this weekend.

Why Shane Lowry is winless in 2025

The Irishman hasn’t been anywhere near his best this season.

On the PGA Tour, he had two top-5s and four top-10 finishes to his name, while his best result on the DP World Tour was a tie for 15th at the Irish Open in September.

So, what is the real reason for his struggles? A quick look at his stats this season tell us exactly why he hasn’t won this year.

Simply put, his driving and putting have been nowhere near good enough this season. On the PGA Tour, he ranked 83rd in strokes gained off the tee and a lowly 123rd in strokes gained putting.

If Lowry is to win this week at the DP World India Championship, he will obviously need to drive the ball well and hole his fair share of putts over the weekend.
