Sepp Straka has offered huge words of praise for his Ryder Cup teammate Rory McIlroy.

Straka was on fire on day three at the Memorial Tournament, firing a six-under-par round of 66 to vault himself back into contention.

The Austrian has matured into quite the player, and he will definitely be part of Team Europe at the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in September, alongside McIlroy of course.

McIlroy reminded Straka about the Ryder Cup points he earned, after his win at the Truist Championship a few weeks ago.

Interestingly, Straka said that he reined in his distance before the start of the 2025 season, in order to find more consistency.

And that has served him extremely well, with two PGA Tour wins to his name this year already.

However, McIlroy possesses one superpower that the 32-year-old can only dream of having in his arsenal.

McIlroy made a blistering start to the 2025 season, with three wins coming at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, The PLAYERS Championship and The Masters.

The key to the 35-year-old’s success this season has, somewhat unsurprisingly, been his prowess off the tee.

Nobody in world golf drives the ball like McIlroy, and it seems like Straka wouldn’t even attempt to emulate his fellow European.

He said, Yeah, Rory’s just a generational talent with a driver and pretty much everything else, but the driver is just incredible. I’m not going to ever try to drive it that way because I might end up losing my game. Scottie’s precision with the irons is incredible. He can control his distances so well with different trajectories. I haven’t really tried to implement any of that in my game, I’ve just been trying to kind of do my own thing and improve the areas of my game that need improving and, yeah, just trying to approach it that way. Those guys are pretty special.

Straka is spot on there. If he attempted to emulate McIlroy, he would most likely end up losing his game.

After all, the four-time PGA Tour winner is an exceptional driver of the ball in his own right.

Sepp Straka’s 2025 PGA Tour stats

Straka has reached a whole new level entirely this season, and he has become very comfortable when in contention to win.

Here is how his numbers stack up on the PGA Tour this season:

PGA Tour statistical categoryStraka’s 2025 rank
Strokes gained off the tee52nd
Strokes gained approach2nd
Strokes gained putting28th
Strokes gained total5th
Scoring average4th

Those numbers are evidence of just how solid Straka has been this season.

His all-round game is extremely strong, and the Europeans will be very lucky to have Straka on their team at Bethpage Black later this year.

The same can be said for McIlroy of course.
