Scottie Scheffler is making winning on the PGA Tour look incredibly easy right now, with the world number one securing his third victory of the season at The Memorial Tournament this week.
Despite the recent form of Ben Griffin, it felt impossible to look past Scottie Scheffler ahead of the final round of The Memorial Tournament after he birdied four of the last five holes on Saturday.
And in truth, the result appeared to be in little doubt from the early stages in the final round. Scheffler did not drop a shot until the 10th hole. Ultimately, he ended up winning by four at Muirfield Village.
If there was any doubt at all, Scheffler has confirmed his place as the best player in the world. It already feels some time ago that the 28-year-old was struggling to get across the line for his first win of 2025.
Sepp Straka lauds Scottie Scheffler after he retains his Memorial title
Of course, the results are speaking for themselves. But it is also telling when some of those on the PGA Tour are also running out of words for Scheffler’s recent form.
Few have been better than Sepp Straka this season. The Austrian is third in the FedEx Cup standings after winning twice this year. And following his final round in Ohio, Straka was asked about the challenge of trying to catch Scheffler when he puts himself at the top of the leaderboard.

“Yeah, you know Scottie’s probably going to play a good round of golf. The guy’s relentless. He loves competition, and he doesn’t like giving up shots. But it’s one of those courses where it can always happen, so you got to be prepared for it,” he said.
“I felt like I gave myself a lot of chances to kind of make a push. Didn’t have my best iron game today, but, yeah, overall, I’m very happy with the performance.”
Straka was then asked about the attribute Scheffler has which impresses him the most.
“I would say, the few times I’ve played with him recently, the way that he can control his distances with different trajectories, different shapes, I think that’s pretty impressive, with his iron shots. That’s probably the most impressive thing. But it’s a long list, a long list of things that makes him impressive. That’s why he’s as good as he is,” he added.
Scheffler’s ability to remain in the present praised after winning at Muirfield Village
It is truly remarkable how comfortable Scheffler looks to be when he has the lead. He has been 17 shots clear of anyone else across his last three victories.
And it seems that the strength of his mental game is crucial to that. Straka was also asked about the importance of staying in the moment rather than getting too carried away while in the heat of the battle.
He was then asked about how good Scheffler is at that particular skill.
“It’s a little bit of both. So in the moment, you’re not really working on it, but after you’re done, after you decompress and kind of look back at the round, you kind of do an honest evaluation of how you did mentally. And that’s hard to do sometimes because it’s hard to look back at a round and be like, Well, I let my mind cost me a shot or two on this hole. But, yeah, that’s kind of what you have to do. Then you kind of realize why you made that mistake and then you move on to the next one,” he added.
“Yeah, seems like he’s really good at it. He’s had a lot of experience in those situations, so I’m sure that that probably has helped, because early on I think there was definitely some times when people said he should have won more or whatever that is. I mean, I don’t know about that, but I’m sure he’s learned a lot over the years of how to deal with those situations and the pressure that comes with it.”
It says everything that the likes of Straka and Griffin are having the seasons of their careers to date, and yet, they are amongst the raft of players being left completely behind by Scheffler right now.
