World number one Scottie Scheffler will be more than keen to start winning on the PGA Tour soon after seeing Rory McIlroy’s explosive start to the season.
McIlroy has already won multiple times and picked up the first major of the season by landing his first green jacket and a career grand slam at The Masters last month.
For Scottie Scheffler, it’s almost like the boot is on the other foot this year after his dominant 2024.
Scheffler has not looked his best just yet in 2025 but still, hasn’t been too far away from winning either.
However, he might well have turned a corner after shooting a stunning round of 61 in the opening round of the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
Scheffler’s 10 under par put him in a solo lead and in with a great chance of win number one of the season. But was it his best ever round on the PGA Tour?

Scottie Scheffler’s best ever rounds on the PGA Tour
Remarkably, and as expected, Scottie Scheffler has gone better than this before and on more than one occasion.
Scheffler scored a 59 back in the Northern Trust back in 2020 at TPC Boston.
He’s also shot 62 plenty of times, having done it six times in his career already as he’s dominated in the last few seasons.
In terms of his form in that brilliant 2024 season, Scheffler shot in the mid to low 60s plenty of times as he cruised to multiple wins and another Masters title.

Despite not winning just yet in 2025, Scheffler has positioned himself perfectly at the Bryson Nelson and more of the same over the weekend will see him home and dry.
The lowest ever rounds of professional golf
Given the history of the game and the stats available, it is quite remarkable that there have only ever been four rounds of 58.
Intriguingly, all four of those rounds have come in the last 15 years. Ryo Ishikawa did it in 2010, while Jim Furyk managed it at the Travelers in 2016.
From there, Kim Seong-hyeon scored 58 at the Golf Partner Pro-Am, before the most well known of all saw Bryson DeChambeau hit the mark at LIV Golf Greenbrier in 2023.
59 has been hit multiple times, including from Jake Knapp at the Cognizant Classic this year, while Patrick Reed managed it in 2024 as well on the Asian Tour.
Outside the pro game, Guiness World Records state the lowest recorded round is a 55. However, given it’s not in the pro ranks, it cannot be counted here.
Scheffler’s 61, then, is some effort.
