There are probably not too many players who could have a big say on the future of the PGA Tour, but Scottie Scheffler is likely to be one of them.

Scottie Scheffler has proved to be a blessing for the PGA Tour. For years, the big question the PGA Tour seemingly ignored was what they were going to do once Tiger Woods stepped aside.

Thankfully, the PGA Tour got lucky that Scheffler came along. The 29-year-old has been the game’s most dominant player since Woods was at the top.

So it seems imperative that Brian Rolapp keeps the likes of Scheffler and Rory McIlroy happy in the years to come.

Scottie Scheffler issues his verdict on the 2026 PGA Tour schedule

Rolapp’s appointment came too late for the new CEO to have any significant say in the 2026 season. But big changes are still coming next year.

Only the top 100 players in the FedEx Cup in 2025 automatically kept their status as full members for next season.

And there are five tournaments from The Masters in mid-April to the PGA Championship the following month which are either majors or signature events.

With that, Scheffler has told 5 Clubs that he is going to have to be selective with his schedule in 2026 to ensure that he can play his best golf.

“The golf schedule is turning into more of a sprint for sure, especially trying to finish in September. It’s quick, from January to September, it’s a pretty quick season,” he said.

“I haven’t fully set my schedule for the next year, but there’s definitely some weeks that I would love to be able to play, but it’s important for me to be able to be rested to be able to go back out and compete. I would love to be able to play every week on the PGA Tour.

“The PGA Tour does such a great job of running tournaments and giving us great places to play and treating us so well. Being on the road, playing the PGA Tour is a pretty easy ask, it’s a lot of fun, but at the same time, I can’t play every week even though I wish I could.”

The signature event Scottie Scheffler will surely skip in 2026

Scheffler was the biggest name missing from the Truist Championship this past year. And it looks highly likely that he will miss that event once again in 2026.

That is because the PGA Championship is the following week, with The CJ CUP Byron Nelson and the Charles Schwab Challenge rounding off the month of May.

And with The Memorial kicking off June, there is a very good chance that Scheffler will play at least four weeks in a row before surely missing the Canadian Open.

If he only misses one signature event in 2026, that would probably be a big victory for the PGA Tour.

But it is something that the tour will have to keep an eye on ahead of 2027 as they look to ensure that their top stars play as many of the biggest events as possible.
