Scottie Scheffler and Blades Brown could well be paired together in the final group of the American Express on Sunday.

Blades Brown set the Nicklaus Course alight on Friday, posting a round of 60 to tie Scheffler for the lead at the American Express after 36 holes.

The world number one has posted rounds of 63 and 64 and if the truth be known, he’s only had his ‘B’ game in La Quinta, California, this week.

Scheffler’s game seems to be in great shape at the American Express and the scary thing for his rivals is that there is clearly plenty more still to come from him.

How many times do you think Scottie Scheffler will win in 2026?

Over or under 4.5…

Meanwhile, Blades opened up his tournament with a solid round of five-under-par 67 before the fireworks really started on Friday.

The 18 year old posted a remarkable round of 60 after parring his final three holes to miss out on the magical 59 by just one stroke.

Scottie Scheffler says if Blades Brown has shocked him at the American Express

The fact that Brown is only 18 is very hard to believe.

His maturity out on the golf course is truly astounding for someone so young and inexperienced at the very highest level.

Scheffler was asked if he was surprised if anyone was able to shoot 59 at the American Express this week.

He said: Would it surprise me? I think any time anybody’s able to shoot a 59 I think it’s an impressive round of golf.

He was then asked whether he’d be surprised if 18 year old Blades Brown managed to break 60.

No, I mean, these kids coming out they know they got to come out and make some birdies, Scheffler suggested.

I think when you’re coming out young you don’t have as much scar tissue as the guys that are a little bit more seasoned, and you just come out, and if you want to make a name for yourself you got to put up some good scores.

It sounds like an 18 year old shooting 59 is a pretty good start to his career there.

Scottie Scheffler to continue his PGA Tour dominance

The challenge for Brown on Saturday will be to back up that round of 60 with yet another low one.

Meanwhile, Scheffler is on track to win his 20th PGA Tour event.

He has been the dominant figure in the professional game over the past few years and he just seems to be getting better and better every single season.

If he produces another five or six-win season, including one or two majors, the comparisons with Tiger Woods will ramp up a notch or two.

And rightly so.

The 29-year-old is doing things that we haven’t seen since Woods’ prime, on a consistent basis as well.

It’s hard to look past Scottie Scheffler winning the American Express this week but his closest challenger may well be Blades Brown.

And what a great story that would be to kick off the 2026 season.
