They say the cream always rises to the top, and Scottie Scheffler proved that once again on day three of the PGA Championship.

Another saying that embodies Scheffler perfectly is the old classic – when the going gets tough, the tough get going.

The PGA Championship is set up perfectly heading into the final round on Sunday, with the 28-year-old American leading by three over Alex Noren, and superstars Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau five and six shots back respectively.

After Friday’s second round, Scheffler said that Quail Hollow would become more difficult for round three, and he was bang on the money with that prediction.

On Saturday, the fairways and greens became a lot firmer and faster than they were during the first two days.

However, we all know that the harder the challenge, the more Scheffler thrives.

And he certainly did that on day three of the PGA Championship.

The world number one made a slow start to 2025.

However, he still had one win, six top-10s and nine top-25s in the nine events he played before the PGA Championship.

Now he looks like he’s on the verge of picking up his second win of the season, and the third major title of his career.

Scheffler isn’t always at his brilliant best, but he is the most consistent golfer in the world, by a long way.

The Dallas native was slightly off on day two at Quail Hollow, and was seen with his coach Randy Smith on the range before Saturday’s round working on a hip drill.

Now he has revealed exactly what his problem was.

He said, ““Well, it’s just a little thing we do to kind of help get my hips moving in properly through the golf ball, you know, just a couple of little feels like that to kind of get us going and that’s kind of what Randy saw yesterday, maybe my hips weren’t moving the way you wanted to through the ball and, you know it was a good little swing thought for me today.

“I definitely struck the ball a lot better today than I did the last couple of days.”

Scheffler streets ahead of the rest, now for utter domination

If Scheffler goes on to win the PGA Championship on Sunday, that will be three majors to his name.

With his quality, there is absolutely no reason why he can’t go on to win one major per year on average over the next 10 years.

And then he will be in the legendary category.

The world number one has absolutely everything needed to dominate world golf now for many more years to come.

However, Scheffler still has to get over the line in the final round of the PGA Championship first. And knowing the 28-year-old, he definitely won’t be taking victory for granted just yet.
