Scottie Scheffler is as deserving an Open champion as we’ll ever meet and the world number one has shown his class again in posting on Instagram about his win.

Scheffler ran away with the Claret Jug, winning by four shots to make it two major wins in 2025.

The world’s best player was simply never going to be caught after his fine third round and in the end, he simply cruised to victory with an expert display of golf.

Still, and as has become the norm with Scheffler, there were no frills when it came to celebrating his win.

As he spoke about prior to the tournament, Scheffler sees more in his life than just golf and while he was delighted to win at Royal Portrush, it wasn’t the be-all and end-all.

Nevertheless, he has won and in doing so, he’s now paid tribute to those who he values the most.

Scottie Scheffler sends message on Instagram after winning The Open

Scottie Scheffler is not your usual celebrity golfer who takes time out to post all the time on socials and build up his brand.

Instead, he keeps his post for the more heartfelt moments, usually involving him winning and event and celebrating with his family.

Indeed, after The Open, Scheffler has now dusted himself down and found time to post on Instagram and as expected, it’s a simple message of class.

Is Scottie Scheffler a new breed of sportsman setting the trend?

So often in sport, it comes down to money for the big stars.

We see it in soccer, the NBA, and the NFL, where players openly chase ‘the bag’ and effectively judge their career on what they earn.

Sure, Scheffler isn’t short of a dollar or two and has won just shy of $100m in prize money now.

However, he is different to so many we see. Scheffler does not do it for the money and while he respects the fact he earns such a living from the sport he loves, it’s all about competing.

Years ago, that was what sport was always about. Money, yes, was an added incentive but in the main, it came down to being better than your opponents and proving it regularly.

Scottie Scheffler is a throw-back to those days and while he enjoys the riches that winning golf tournaments brings him, he is so down to earth and humble.

With a bit of luck, this is the start of a new trend of sports-person, where they value winning, competing, and things outside of the sport as more important than simply the cheques they cash.
