Scottie Scheffler is finely poised after day two of The PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.

Scheffler is currently sitting at five-under-par after firing a second round of three-under-par 68 at Quail Hollow, and he is just three shots back of PGA Championship leader Jhonattan Vegas.

The 28-year-old American will feel like he’s in an extremely strong position heading into the weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The usually unflappable Scheffler complained about mud-balls on day one of the PGA Championship, but that didn’t distract him from continuing his solid form on into day two.

He will take some beating this weekend, there’s no doubt about that.

Scheffler excels around difficult golf courses and he’s definitely the favourite heading into the weekend.

Now Quail Hollow is set to get even more difficult.

Scottie Scheffler knows the change that will happen this weekend at the PGA Championship

Scheffler has been around the block more than just a few times in major championships.

And his experience will stand him in extremely good stead heading into the weekend.

The Dallas native spoke to reporters after his second round on Friday, and highlighted exactly how he expects the course to change on Saturday and Sunday.

Scheffler said, The greens will definitely get very firm. They’re going to firm up a lot over the next couple days. I think we’re supposed to get a little bit of wind tomorrow. I’d be surprised if they throw too much water on them.

The fairways, I mean, they maybe will firm up a little bit, but we’ll see. To be honest with you, I’m not really — I mean, yeah, they’ll firm up a little bit. Who knows how much? I really don’t know.

The fairways will definitely not be firm and fast would be my guess. Like I said, we’ll see what happens with the weather. I’ve been surprised at golf tournaments before. We’ll see what happens over the next couple of days.

That sounds like a golf course that should suit Scheffler down to the ground.

Aaron Rai completely disagreed with Scottie Scheffler

After Scheffler’s complaint that the USPGA played the ball down on day one, Aaron Rai had a completely different take on the situation.

The Englishman said, Yeah, I think the PGA TOUR and the PGA of America referees know what they’re doing. They know a lot more than us as players. That decision would have been based on the right reasons.

There were a couple of spots that were pretty wet on the fairways, but that’s to be expected with just how much rain that we’ve had. But I think it’s extremely dry around the greens and the runoffs are extremely tight.

I think without playing preferred lies, it brought in the challenge of the short game a little bit more, which I think is an important part of the course.

So yeah, I thought the decision was good and the course played great overall.

I tend to agree with Scheffler over Rai in this instance. There was no reason whatsoever not to play lift clean and place on day one.

The fairways were drenched from the deluge of rain that fell on Quail Hollow from Monday to Wednesday, and that subsequently created an unfair test, in my opinion.
