One of the only question marks which arguably still lingers over Scottie Scheffler is whether he will be able to sustain anything like the dominance he enjoyed in 2024 over a much longer period.
Scottie Scheffler seemed to be breaking records every time he teed it up in 2024. The world number one won eight times worldwide, including securing a second Masters title, becoming the first player to ever retain the Players Championship, and winning an Olympic gold medal.
While Scheffler had already shown that he could be the best player in the world, his 2024 season put him alongside the greatest to have ever played the game.
Few could have foreseen just how dominant he would prove to be. But in hindsight, that dominance began right at the end of 2023, with Scheffler winning the Hero World Challenge for a third victory of the year.
All eyes on Scottie Scheffler at the Hero World Challenge
Scheffler won by three shots at Albany – the largest margin since Jon Rahm‘s victory in the event in 2018 – to give himself just that little boost heading into 2024. His victory also came before he decided to switch to the mallet putter which has brought him a lot more success on the greens.
Of course, the Hero World Challenge is not the kind of event which helps decide a player’s legacy. The tournament – hosted by Tiger Woods – boasts a field of just 20 players and is not recognised as an official PGA Tour event.

However, it will boast one of the strongest fields in the world – in terms of star power – in the months between the Tour Championship and the start of the new PGA Tour season. So there is certainly a great opportunity for Scheffler to make a real statement ahead of 2025.
The first round of the new PGA Tour season is one month away
The likes of Ludvig Aberg, Patrick Cantlay and Sahith Theegala are set to be involved this week. So whoever emerges victorious will take plenty of positives into the new season.
And given that Scheffler has not played competitively since East Lake, it would be particularly significant if he retained his title this week.
It would certainly give his rivals plenty to think about with the opening round of the The Sentry now just a month away.
