Scottie Scheffler clearly did not get the memo that he did not need to win either of the first two playoff events to ensure that he went into the Tour Championship as the overwhelming favourite.

Scottie Scheffler followed an encouraging performance at the FedEx St. Jude Championship last week by winning the BMW Championship on Sunday. Scheffler capitalised on a tough day for overnight leader Robert MacIntyre to secure his fifth victory of the season.

Scheffler had been struggling at various points heading into the final round at Caves Valley. And there were further signs of the 29-year-old not having his A game on Sunday as he made three bogeys during his round.

However, when Scheffler needed to produce a moment of sheer brilliance, he was more than ready to steal the show. His chip-in on the 17th hole will surely become one of the most iconic shots of his career.

Scottie Scheffler suggests how he keeps winning on the PGA Tour after his triumph at the BMW Championship

Scheffler has won five of his last 10 tournaments on the PGA Tour. And while some of his performances have been truly incredible, there have been plenty of times when he has been able to dig in while looking rusty and simply post a score which keeps him in the mix.

Speaking after his victory, in comments broadcast by Sky Sports, Scheffler explained why he believes he has been able to win with such regularity in recent months.

“I think it has a lot to do with the intensity to each round. I try not to take days off or shots off. It can be a little bit tiring. Today was a grind. I think it has a lot to do with the intensity we bring to each round and each shot,” he said.

Scottie Scheffler pays tribute to Ted Scott and Michael Cromie after his latest win

Of course, it will have been a very long time since Scheffler won without Ted Scott on the bag. The pair have formed a phenomenal partnership in recent years.

It was no surprise that Scheffler struggled at last year’s PGA Championship on the day Scott was not alongside him.

Scott unfortunately had to leave last week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship before the final round due to a family matter. And as he was not ready to return for this week, Scheffler had Michael Cromie as his caddie at Caves Valley.

But Scott clearly was not far from Scheffler’s thoughts as he paid tribute to both men in Maryland.

“Ted is at home with his family and he is where he is supposed to be. We are praying for them and his family are doing alright. Cromie did a great job this week, it’s not easy stepping in and filling in for Ted. Those are some big shoes to fill but he did a great job,” he added.

“Him and Ted are good buddies and I was really grateful to have him on the bag this week. It was good fun.”

It remains to be seen who will caddie for Scheffler at the Tour Championship. Based on his performance this week, there is every reason to think that it will be incredibly difficult for anyone to stop him retaining his title at East Lake.
