Golf fans awaiting the return of Scottie Scheffler have been dealt a blow this week, with the world number one confirming that he will not be back in action at The American Express.
The wait to see whether Scottie Scheffler could somehow improve on his 2024 season goes on. The 28-year-old had to withdraw from The Sentry after sustaining a hand injury in an accident at home on Christmas Day.
Scheffler had to undergo surgery, but he had hoped to be back for The American Express in California.
However, his return to the PGA Tour has now had to be pushed back further.
Scottie Scheffler confirms when he expects to return after withdrawing from The American Express
Scheffler has taken to social media to confirm that he is not ready to feature at The American Express after seeking further medical advice.

It does appear that rather than suffer a setback, the two-time Masters champion just needs a little longer to fully recover. Scheffler went on to suggest that he is now hoping to be in the field for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
Why Scheffler’s decision may not be too concerning
Of course, there will be some who are a little concerned that Scheffler is going to need a little longer than expected before he returns to action.
Given the nature of the injury, and the initial timeline, it appears that it is something of an annoying problem, particularly when you consider how important the hands obviously are to the golf swing.
But it is not entirely unexpected. Rex Hoggard suggested this week that he would not be concerned if Scheffler missed The American Express, noting that it is not a signature event.
Perhaps Scheffler does not feel that it is worth the risk with plenty of significant tournaments coming up over the coming months.
Hopefully, Scheffler does indeed find himself in the right condition to tee it up at Pebble Beach later this month.
