World number one Scottie Scheffler is among those battling away at the AT&T Pro-Am at Pebble Beach as testing conditions meant a bunched up leaderboard for round three.

Scheffler came home at three-under par and ten-under overall to put himself in the mix inside the top 12 going into the final round on Sunday.

Scheffler, of course, is playing his first tournament since sustaining a bizarre injury to his hand over Christmas.

The world’s best player was dominant in 2024 and after missing a few tournaments, there was some concern over whether Scheffler’s injury was worse than first feared.

Now, Scheffler has given an update on how his hand is.

Scottie Scheffler gives injury update after round three of the AT&T Pro-Am at Pebble Beach

Scottie Scheffler was straight off the course and into an interview at Pebble Beach and talk quickly turned to his had injury.

And answering the question, Scheffler confirmed things are looking up.

“It feels good,” Scheffler said. “I pushed myself really hard last week to get myself ready for this week. I think the worst case scenario for me would have been coming back too soon and having to stop playing and practicing and take a step back.

“And it definitely would have been worse case scenario to do that on the road. So when I felt good enough and got the clearance from my doctor I really pushed myself hard last week to do a lot more than I normally would, to get the body ready and my hand ready to make sure I wasn’t going to have a set back and it kept getting better each day and it feels good this week, so I am looking forward to having a pain free week.”

Scottie Scheffler’s verdict on a tough round three at Pebble Beach

With the wind and rain causing problems for some, the cream of the crop showed their class as the likes of Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry all performed, while Collin Morikawa played himself into contention too.

But for Scheffler, the weather only adds to the fun.

“It is pretty challenging, the rain adds another element to it and the heavy winds you get coming off the ocean. It’s a bit different to a lot of the stuff we see all year but it’s a fun change of pace.

“I don’t know how you can describe today as fun but parts of it were definitely fun! It’s something new from the same stuff that we see every week so it was an interesting day.”

Scheffler will need a fast start in round four to get up alongside McIlroy and co at the summit.

However, given his performances in the last 12 months, only a fool would back against Scheffler being right in the mix come the final few holes.
