Sahith Theegala and Russell Henley are the two players on the US Presidents Cup team who are set to represent their country in a team event for the first time in their professional careers at Royal Montreal.

Both Sahith Theegala and Russell Henley are amongst the four rookies on Jim Furyk‘s team for the Presidents Cup, with Henley receiving a captain’s pick after an incredibly consistent year on the PGA Tour.

While the 35-year-old did not win, he did finish in the top 10 on seven occasions, including at the US Open and The Open Championship. He also shot a 62 to finish in a tie for fourth at The Tour Championship.

His consistency and reliability could make him such a huge asset to Furyk, depending on who the US captain pairs with him over the coming days. Some think most of the team will want to be paired with Henley.

And it definitely seems that his teammates are big admirers of Henley. Speaking in his press conference ahead of the Presidents Cup, Theegala about the golf swings of the players on the US team, and he suggested that Henley’s dispersion makes him the envy of many – perhaps including Scottie Scheffler.

“Russ Henley. I’m jealous of everyone’s swing on this team. They all swing it incredible. But I think everyone would agree the most, this guy doesn’t curve the golf ball,” he said.

“Collin is an incredible ball striker. Scottie is incredible. But they curve the ball. Some of their misses actually curve off line. Russ’ don’t curve off line. If he hits it off line, it’s like 10-foot off line. And it’s because he pushed it not because he cut it 10 yards. Probably Russ’. It’s so simple.”

A secret weapon for the US

On paper, it is an extremely well-rounded US team. Certainly, if everyone brings their best games this week, it is hard to imagine the Internationals ending their long wait for a second victory in the event.

Obviously, much of the focus will be on how the likes of Xander Schauffele and Scheffler perform. But guys like Henley and Brian Harman can have important roles to play, as, at their best, they seem incapable of missing fairways.

Henley has also had to be incredibly patient in waiting for his chance on this stage in his career, so he will be desperate to make the most of his opportunity in case it does not come around again.
