Rory McIlroy is in action at The Memorial this week but his interview after round two was still dominated by questions on the future of golf.

McIlroy battled his way around the course yesterday and goes into the final round some eight shots off Scottie Scheffler at the top of the leaderboard.

For McIlroy, this week is all about tuning up for the US Open at Pinehurst next week.

However, off the course, it’s been a busy period for golf in general as McIlroy was part of a big call this week between the PGA and the PIF, who own LIV Golf.

And that subject was broached by the media when McIlroy entered the press room yesterday.

Rory McIlroy shares what he got out of the PGA and PIF meeting this week

Speaking in his interview after his second round at The Memorial, McIlroy revealed what he got from the meeting between the PGA and PIF this week.

“Yeah, erm, very productive. Very constructive. Very collaborative. I think they’re the three words I’d use to describe it. It was really good,” McIlroy said.

“Definitely things are heading in the right direction, a lot of progress was made. I can’t really say much more than that but it was really positive.”

McIlroy was then quizzed on if he felt surprised at the progress made on what the Northern Irishman described as a four and a half hour meeting.

“Erm…I would say…maybe not surprised but maybe more encouraged. I think a lot of progress had sort of been made. But yeah, definitely encouraged.”

McIlroy did speak more on the situation as well, adding more on what he learnt from the meeting when it came to investments and rights around those investments.

McIlroy must get sick of the questions

As ever, Rory McIlroy spoke with good grace here and delivered answers that sum up how professional he is at times with the media.

However, there must be a feeling deep down that he is getting a tad sick of dealing with this sort of question.

As you can note here, he was asked just the one or two questions about his actual round at The Memorial before the questions turned to those PIF and PGA talks and took over.

McIlroy must be praying for the day when he doesn’t have to front up to such issues and he can simply get on with playing his golf.
