Rory McIlroy produced one of the great golfing moments of 2025 as he won the Irish Open in stunning fashion.
After looking like he’d given the tournament to Joakim Lagergren, McIlroy rallied down the 18th and delighted the home crowd in doing so.
After finding the green in two, McIlroy then stepped up to roll in a stunning putt from around 15 feet to create chaos around the greens.

In that moment, McIlroy showed his class and once more, showed he truly is a box office golfer when he’s on it.
Indeed, with the putt creating scenes Michael Kim compared to those of Tiger Woods’ prime, Sky Sports pundit David Howell was also left stunned.

Rory McIlroy told his putt on 18 at the Irish Open was something special
Rory McIlroy has had some fine moments in his career and some would argue that his win at Augusta this year was the most memorable of the lot.
However, McIlroy is always striving for more and at the K Club this weekend, he produced one of the putts of his life to create scenes we rarely see in golf.
In fact, at the time of the putt rolling in, Sky’s David Howell suggested that it might have been one of the most special sporting moments of all time.
“He didn’t disappoint did he – what a moment. That was the most beautiful of putts and it went in with pace, right into the heart of the hole,” Howell said.
“Goodness me, it’s pandemonium. I’ve seen some moments, but that was a really special one. I can’t think of many better.
“That was just a brilliant sporting moment from one of this nation’s great stars. Maybe only he could have done that.”
Rory McIlroy’s best moments of 2025
There have been some quite stunning moments on the golf course from Rory McIlroy in 2025 and the fact he’s still producing them so late in the season is testament to his brilliance.
Still, quite what the best moment of the year for McIlroy is, is open to debate.
Who can forget his raking high draw iron shot on 15 at The Masters, which CBS referred to as ‘the shot of a lifetime’ before he went on to win the green jacket.
His closing wedge shot in the playoff with Justin Rose in that same tournament was also a thing of beauty, while his sheer destruction of J.J. Spaun at The Players was a display of true sporting brilliance.
Thankfully for us, we get to sit back and witness these moments from McIlroy and simply enjoy them.
With a huge 2025 under his belt and the Ryder Cup still to come, we might only be at the start of McIlroy’s prime.
