Rory McIlroy will feel he’s out of contention at the BMW Championship already but with the Ryder Cup coming up shortly, he’s keeping a close eye on those who could join him on Team Europe.

McIlroy is obviously the main man for Europe and has already confirmed his place on Luke Donald’s team alongside Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose.

McIlroy sits at four under for his tournament after a fine second round 66 put him back in the top 15 going into the third day at Caves Valley.

However, while McIlroy flies the flag for Europe, there are some there trying to make an impression.

Tommy Fleetwood is once again playing well, Ludvig Aberg has found form and interestingly, Englishman Harry Hall is up there at five-under par.

Indeed, speaking about Hall and his potential for a Ryder Cup spot, McIlroy insisted it’s all to play for.

Rory McIlroy says if Harry Hall can make the Ryder Cup

There seems to be some momentum building behind Harry Hall, who has enjoyed a brilliant season in golf in general.

Hall hasn’t finished outside the top 30 in his last ten PGA Tour events and that includes both The Open and the PGA Championship.

As it stands, Hall is 19th on the European rankings and is seen as an outsider to make the team.

Nevertheless, McIlroy believes Hall is still very much in contention.

“Yeah, it is. It’s good,” McIlroy replied when asked about the leaderboard being Europe heavy. “It’s good to see Bob, Ludvig, Viktor, Tommy, even Harry Hall that’s maybe got a chance to play in the team. Yeah, it bodes well for a few weeks’ time.”

Asked specifically about Hall, McIlroy suggested he’s not out of the picture.

“Yeah, I played with Harry in his first start as a pro at the Dunhill Links a few years ago. I know him a little bit.

“Really nice player, great rhythm to his golf swing, and he’s sort of done it a different way. He went over to UNLV and did it that way. But he’s become a very consistent player, so we’ll see what happens.”

Harry Hall’s 2025 PGA Tour season in numbers

Sometimes in golf, a player puts together a consistent run without blowing everyone away and suddenly becomes a factor in big calls like Ryder Cup squads.

Harry Hall has done just that this season and it’s all down to him playing really solid golf.

In 23 PGA Tour events, Hall has made the cut 20 times, nabbing 13 top 25 finishes along the way and four top tens to boot.

His season has all been about consistency, with a T6 his best finish and in the last ten events, his worst finish being a T28 at The Open.

Of course, Luke Donald is likely to already know his final 12 but with Hall playing so well, he’s at least making the European skipper think differently.
