Rory McIlroy’s fine 2025 form continued in round two of The Truist Championship and he’s now started the mind-games with the leaders, Keith Mitchell and Shane Lowry.

McIlroy fired in an impressive round of 67 to follow up on Friday’s 66 to put himself at seven under for the tournament and just five back of Mitchell at the summit.

McIlroy is the man in form right now and after big wins at The Players and The Masters, is looking to continue his impressive streak.

Sitting five back of Mitchell and four back of Lowry, McIlroy is fully aware that he needs both his A-game and some mistakes from those two to reel them in.

Nevertheless, McIlroy has appeared to start with the mind-games as he spoke to the media after round two.

Rory McIlroy’s message to Shane Lowry and Keith Mitchell at The Truist

McIlroy was in a buoyant mood yet again as he left the 18th green at Philadelphia Cricket Club and was immediately challenged by the media on his round.

However, when pressed on Lowry and Mitchell being the leaders, McIlroy appeared to suggest that all the pressure is on those two, and not him.

“I think it is a good chasing golf course,” McIlroy quipped.

“And I think, you know, with the leaders, you know, especially with Keith being where he is and Shane, I think they’re going to have to…it’s not a bad course to lead on as well because you know you have to keep the foot down and you need to keep making birdies, so you can’t really play too defensively.

“But yeah, you know, it’s I’m looking forward to just playing another , you know, two solid rounds and, you know, have a good gauge of where my game is heading into the PGA.”

A Rory McIlroy win at The Truist will worry everyone else ahead of the PGA Championship

Right now, there is no player in golf playing better than Rory McIlroy. It is just that simple.

He is producing consistently at a level few can only dream of and while we saw Scottie Scheffler go record equalling last week at the Byron Nelson, it is McIlroy who is keeping up the consistency.

Going into the PGA next week, if McIlroy was to win in Philly then the rest of the field would have a serious problem.

Not only would McIlroy be the man to beat, but Scheffler will return fresh off that -31 score and it could end up being a case of ‘why bother’ for the rest.

Yes, the PGA Tour field is deep but right now, Rory McIlroy is the man to beat and if he wins at The Truist, things are looking ominous.
