Rory McIlroy is back in golf action this week and he’s been facing the media for the first time since leaving the US Open in a hurry a few weeks back.
McIlroy looked on agonisingly as Bryson DeChambeau sealed a memorable win around Pinehurst.
At the time, McIlroy made headlines as he made a quick getaway from Pinehurst and failed to stick around to congratulate DeChambeau or join in with media duties.
Clearly, McIlroy was stung at the time as he missed out on finally landing that fifth major.
Since then, a lot has been made about just why he scarpered so quickly and the media have been waiting patiently to ask him about that Sunday at the US Open.
McIlroy is playing the Genesis Scottish Open this week as he looks to defend the title he won in 2023.
And journalists wasted no time getting to the nitty gritty of those chats about Pinehurst and DeChambeau.

Rory McIlroy shares his feelings on leaving the US Open early
As expected, McIlroy was asked the question about his quick exit from Pinehurst.
But as ever, McIlroy stuck to his principles and insisted that he had nothing to look back on and regret, in part due to the situation.
“Absolutely not, no,” McIlroy commented. “There is nothing I could have said that was, I mean it would have been good because you guys would have been able to write something about it or have a few quotes from me.
“But no offence you guys were the least of my worries at that point.”
McIlroy will be desperate to do well in Scotland
There’s nothing more a golfer wants to do when times are hard than simply go out and play golf again.
For Rory McIlroy, these questions were always going to come along and he will have been thinking about his answers for a while now.
However, he is as honest as ever and his answer here is nothing surprising.
Now, the key for him will be to go out and perform and defend his title in Scotland.
If he can get a win under his belt with The Open coming up next week, then he might just end the season in style anyway and finally land major number five.
