Rory McIlroy enjoyed the best year of his professional golf career in 2025, winning The Masters, the Ryder Cup, and more.

Now, a big talking point in the 2026 season will be whether McIlroy can achieve even more success.

Perhaps one of the Northern Irishman’s goals for 2026 will be to win TGL with his team, Boston Common Golf.

Ahead of Boston’s opening match against Los Angeles Golf Club on Friday, McIlroy answered some fan questions.

He mentioned an ongoing change to his golf bag that he is looking forward to putting into practice.

Rory McIlroy makes change to golf clubs for 2026

Despite McIlroy’s incredible 2025 season, which included four tournament victories, he is not resting on his laurels.

The world number two is always looking to improve, and he believes that he has found something that will take his game to another level.

McIlroy revealed before his first TGL appearance of the 2026 season that he is actually using a different set of irons.

“I’m actually trying a new set of irons, which I’m very excited about at the minute,” he said on the Boston Common Golf YouTube channel.

Among the many other questions McIlroy answered, perhaps the most interesting was whether he would like to rewrite any moment from his career.

He has made several high-profile mistakes, including his missed putt on the final hole at the 2024 US Open, but he does not regret any of them.

“I wouldn’t. I think everything that I’ve done in my career has led me to this point,” McIlroy gave a mature response.

“Maybe if I had some do-overs, it wouldn’t have worked out the way it has. So, I’m going to say no.”

Is this Rory McIlroy’s most embarrassing moment ever on a golf course?

Where Rory McIlroy’s iron play ranked on the PGA Tour in 2025

McIlroy must have recognized during the offseason that his iron play was not on the same level as many of his rivals in 2025.

He ranked 68th on the PGA Tour in the 2025 season for strokes gained: approach the green (0.157 per round).

By comparison, Scottie Scheffler (1.291) and Tommy Fleetwood (0.711) ranked first and sixth, respectively.

McIlroy will now be hoping that his new irons help him close the gap to Scheffler and Fleetwood in 2026.

Meanwhile, everyone else will be rooting for McIlroy’s decision not to pay off, as he could be almost unstoppable if it does.
