Rory McIlroy finds himself five shots off the lead at the Scottish Open ahead of tomorrow’s final round and he’s made a prediction on how he can play catch up.
The imperious Ludvig Aberg has put himself in prime position to win after carding another under-par round of five-under, building on the par of 64s he shot in round one and two.
The young Swede has it all in his own hands really and he’s two clear of Bob MacIntyre in second.
McIlroy, meanwhile, still played well and shot three under par for his round to leave him on -12 overall.
With the conditions not being too tricky either, McIlroy knows that making up five shots is going to be a tough ask.
And discussing tomorrow’s final round in Scotland, McIlroy has conceded that he needs to be making shots up from the very get-go to even be in with a chance.

Rory McIlroy predicts where he needs to be after five holes in the final round of the Scottish Open
Speaking to the media after his third round, McIlroy admitted that he’s going to need the fastest of starts to even stand a chance of winning.
“I think it’s sort of similar to what Bob did today. Get off to a good start and then sort of try and ride that momentum,” McIlroy said.
“You know I didn’t get off to quite as fast as a start as I would have wanted on the front nine as I did yesterday. But that’s what I’m going to need tomorrow.
“I’m going to need to be at least three under through five to get myself around the lead and then take it from there and just try to keep it going.”
McIlroy is more than capable of producing and he has made birdie on the opening hole this week already.
But there is no room for error if he is to win.
The best round in the whole of round three was MacIntyre’s seven under. Even if McIlroy matches that, he’ll need Aberg and others to have slip ups to be within the mix.
