Rory McIlroy is among the star-studded field taking on the US Open this week, which takes place at Oakmont Country Club.

McIlroy won the US Open in 2011, with the success representing one of his five major championship titles.

His most recent arrived at The Masters earlier this year, which represents his third PGA Tour win of the season and 29th overall.

But McIlroy has struggled to push on from his Augusta triumph, missing the cut at the Canadian Open in his most recent tournament.

His focus now turns to the US Open, where he has been paired with Shane Lowry and Justin Rose for rounds one and two.

“But for the favourites – guys like Rory, like Scheffler, all the superstars. You have to drive it well and then you have to be really smart with your irons.

“You have to put it in positions to where you have to think about I have got to try and get this close but be above the hole, is it more prudent to be below the hole and then I can be a bit more prudent with the putt.

“I think you will see the usual cast of characters on the leaderboard. This golf tournament always throws up someone who isn’t a household name or isn’t a superstar. But expect chaos. This is golf chaos in its purest form.

“I think the winner here will have to win the golf tournament, win the championship, hold the trophy, be a major championship. They will have to win it not only with his body and his stamina but with his mind as well.”

But a dip in form of late could play on his mind at Oakmont, which is already tough as it is without any further mental worries.
