Rory McIlroy enjoyed the week of his life at Bethpage Black, helping Europe win an away Ryder Cup against the USA.

McIlroy badly wanted an away Ryder Cup win, with his wish coming true in New York as Europe secured a 15-13 win.

And The Masters champion was key to that success, with McIlroy scoring 3.5 points for his team from five matches.

He ended the Ryder Cup with a 3-1-1 record, enjoying plenty of success with playing partners Shane Lowry and Tommy Fleetwood.

McIlroy finished with a loss to Scottie Scheffler in singles, but it was of little significance in the end as Europe held out to lift the trophy.

Rory McIlroy fires cheeky jibe at the US Ryder Cup team

It was a raucous atmosphere at Bethpage Black, and McIlroy was abused by the American fans throughout the week.

But he’s now fired back on social media with a cheeky jibe on Instagram, likely aimed at fans and the US Ryder Cup team.

Sharing a video of his efforts in New York, he wrote: “Our time. Their place,” with his message accompanied by a wink face emoji.

Justin Rose and Ludvig Aberg react to Europe’s Ryder Cup win against the USA

McIlroy certainly wasn’t the only European player to take to social media to celebrate the fantastic success on away soil.

Veteran Justin Rose also shared highlights from New York on Instagram, writing: “What a week…. What a night with Ryder Cup Europe.”

He secured two points under captain Luke Donald, as did his teammate Ludvig Aberg, who has also since taken to Instagram in celebration.

Aberg wrote: “The Ryder Cup is the single greatest event in our sport and I’m so proud to have been a part of Ryder Cup Europe.”

It’s a week that those players will never, ever forget, having helped Europe win their fifth away Ryder Cup against their fierce rivals.

But while the celebrations may still be ongoing for many, such players are perhaps already thinking about Adare Manor.

The Irish course plays host to the 2027 Ryder Cup, where there is seemingly every chance that Donald could continue as captain.

And that could mean a very similar team to Bethpage, with Donald having made just one change to his team from Rome for the latest edition of the tournament.
