Rory McIlroy might be one of the best golfers in the world but he’s admitted it’s not all just down to him as an individual.
Currently the world number three, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone on the PGA Tour who knows more about being a top player over a consistent period of time.
McIlroy has been world number one, won four majors, been part of Ryder Cup wins, and been the posted boy of the PGA Tour in Tiger Woods’ absence.

However, all that comes with weight on the shoulders and big pressure.
And when asked in his press conference today about the importance of a team around him, McIlroy admitted it’s vital for for him.

Rory McIlroy shares his thoughts on having the right team around him on the PGA Tour
Speaking in his pre-tournament press conference on Wednesday, McIlroy shared his thoughts on having the right people in and around you as a pro golfer.
“I think it ebbs and flows throughout your career. I think it’s absolutely imperative to have a great team around you and I’m incredibly lucky that I do,” McIlroy said.
“But everyone’s different. Some people have bigger teams, some have smaller teams. Some people like having a lot of people around the golf tournaments, some people don’t. It’s really up to the individual.
“I have a great team I can lean on but whenever I get to a tournament venue I try and keep the entourage pretty small. But it’s important I think with how competitive the game is now, you have to do everything right.
“From a swing coach, to short game, putting, to mental, to physical, to training, diet, you know, all of those things combined because the margins out here are so small and you don’t want to feel like you’re giving anyone an advantage. It’s incredibly competitive and I think because of that you’re seeing more and more guys build these teams around them.”
McIlroy will need his group more than ever right now

At the moment, Rory McIlroy is one of the best golfers in the world and he comes into most tournaments as one of the favourites.
However, we all know that right now, McIlroy has some off-course issues to attend to and that’s when the right people around you can be more vital than ever.
McIlroy has always had a good head on his shoulders and speaks so well in press conferences. And his comments here on this matter are important as well and it recognises he appreciates those around him.
We’ve seen countless sportspeople and celebrities over the years fade into nothing due to the bad influences around them.
McIlroy, it seems, has it pretty nailed down in terms of his group.
