Both Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood will be reasonably pleased with how their PGA Tour seasons began at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am this past week.
Neither Rory McIlroy nor Tommy Fleetwood particularly impressed at the start of the DP World Tour campaign in January. But both men managed to finish inside the top 15 at the first signature event of the year.
Who is the biggest winner if Tiger Woods never existed?
Fleetwood joined Scottie Scheffler in a tie for fourth at Pebble Beach. McIlroy was 10 places further back.
And both men arguably have the perfect opportunity to kick on at the Genesis Invitational this week.

There is more than a hint of the Ryder Cup about two of the featured groups at Riviera.
Fleetwood and McIlroy will tee it up together for the first two days in the Pacific Palisades. And they will be joined by Collin Morikawa, last week’s winner.

Of course, Morikawa would be forgiven for having one or two nightmares about his group.
Keegan Bradley was heavily criticised for pairing Morikawa and Harris English together twice at Bethpage. On both occasions, they were soundly beaten by McIlroy and Fleetwood.
With English not playing his Sunday singles match, the American did not actually tee it up on either of the final two holes during the event.
Justin Rose and Robert MacIntyre also set to be reunited
Elsewhere, two of the other players to win on the PGA Tour this year will face off. Chris Gotterup and Justin Rose have got off to extremely strong starts this season.
They will be joined by Robert MacIntyre, who finished tied for 37th – alongside Gotterup – at Pebble Beach.
Rose and MacIntyre did not play together at the 2025 Ryder Cup, but they did go unbeaten from their two matches together in Rome in 2023.
Rose’s experience appeared to be vital in Friday’s afternoon session. But the Scot grew as the week went on, proving to himself that he belongs on the biggest stage.
He has since kicked on and won twice on the PGA Tour.
Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele are joined by Si-woo Kim in another featured group. Meanwhile, defending champion Ludvig Åberg, Hideki Matsuyama, and J.J. Spaun round off the list ahead of Thursday’s first round.
