Robert MacIntyre continued his dream Ryder Cup career at Bethpage Black, where he helped Europe defeat the USA.

MacIntyre posted 1.5 points for Team Europe from his three matches, securing his second Ryder Cup title from as many appearances.

Tommy Fleetwood led the points leaderboard with four, followed by the 3.5 of his European teammates Rory McIlroy and Tyrrell Hatton.

MacIntyre found it difficult to handle the crowd at Bethpage Black, who gave the visitors a very hostile welcome to New York.

McIlroy received heavy abuse from the fans, but the hostility wasn’t enough to prevent the away side from claiming a memorable victory.

Robert MacIntyre discusses ‘absolute carnage’ en route to winning the Ryder Cup

His European teammate MacIntyre referenced the atmosphere after the win, having spoken to BBC Sport the following morning.

The Scot explained: “We said it from the start – we’re a big band of brothers. It’s a special feeling to do it again, but to do it when we were kind of written off and to do it in the style we’ve done it was huge.

“It was absolute carnage out there, but it makes it that much better that we managed to handle it.

“I mean, we play for each other. We do anything. Look, Luke told me I was playing foursomes. I play foursomes.

“I don’t argue or ask ‘can I play fourball?’ I do as I’m told. And I think everyone in the team does the exact same. Luke tells you to jump, you ask ‘how high?’ As Europeans that’s the only way we know.

“When I grew up playing team sports, you listened to the coaches, you listened to people in charge and did what you were told. And everyone in there, from myself to Rory, to [Jon] Rahm, everyone just does what we’re told.”

Robert MacIntyre has message for New York after Ryder Cup win at Bethpage Black

As he always does, MacIntyre wore his heart on his sleeve in New York, and continued to show his true colours on social media after the win.

Sharing an image of himself lifting the Ryder Cup trophy, the Scot posted on Instagram: “Love you too NY.”

Team Europe prepared for noise at the Ryder Cup, but their preparations were always going to fall short of the real thing.

But they certainly handled themselves well, led by the calmness and composure of their superb leader Donald.

The likes of McIlroy and Shane Lowry did give something back to the fans on occasion, but only when the insults crossed the line.

American star Justin Thomas tried to calm the crowd at Bethpage, where the presence of state troopers was required to try to keep the peace.
