There’s not much that hasn’t been said about Scottie Scheffler in recent months but now Robert MacIntyre has added further praise towards the world number one.
Scheffler produced another stunning round of golf at The Open to go four shots clear at the top of the leaderboard going into Sunday.
The world number one made shot after shot and his putting was on fire as well. If Scheffler is putting well, it generally means he’s up there and so it has proved.
As for Scottish favourite MacIntyre, he’s had the pleasure of playing with Bryson DeChambeau and seeing Scheffler at his best this week at Royal Portrush.
And speaking about Scheffler after his third round, MacIntyre lavished praise on the world’s best player.

Robert MacIntyre praises Scottie Scheffler after day three at The Open
With Scheffler undoubtedly the best golfer in the world at the moment, we are seeing something akin to Tiger Woods in terms of dominance.
Indeed, for MacIntyre, the idea of just how far ahead Scheffler is compared to everyone else is quite frightening.
“He’s by far the best player in the world. I remember the start of this year, asked Mike with the stats guy, asked Mike to look at all the stats to see how close we are to No. 1 in the world. Mike stopped after a couple of stats checked and he went to No. 2 because he realised it,” MacIntyre commented.
“I mean, when we checked the stats, Scheffler was further ahead of No. 2 in the world than I was at wherever I was, 15, 16 in the world, to No. 2. Yeah, he’s an exceptional player, great guy. Yeah, works so hard.”

How Robert MacIntyre feels about his week at The Open so far
At six under par, MacIntyre is probably too far back to contend on Sunday.
The Scot had been in contention at one point but over the course of the three rounds so far, he’s just not quite found enough.
However, that doesn’t mean it’s been a bad week for MacIntyre, who admitted he’s happy overall.
“That’s all. When I went home last night when I left here yesterday, I thought beautiful links golf working its magic, and I’m sitting on my couch almost in tears because I’m watching flags are limp, guys are spinning it on greens. I thought walking away from here last night that I wouldn’t be more than three shots back, ended up five shots back from the best player in the world, and it feels like, yes, you can still be in it if something happens, but you just feel that little bit too far back,” MacIntyre admitted.
“I don’t know if that had an effect on me what I felt. I was having to push a little bit more, and a couple of mistakes came in early on. Now tomorrow is go out there and finish as high as we can, get as many World Ranking and Ryder Cup points as we can.”
Along with Rory McIlroy, MacIntyre is one of the most popular players out on course at Royal Portrush.
If he can finish strongly, then he might just leave a few lasting memories for those patrons who have sung his name all week.
