Rickie Fowler is still very much in with a chance of making the FedEx Cup finale at East Lake next week, after day three at the BMW Championship.
Fowler posted a 67 on Saturday at Caves Valley, and he will head into the final round of the BMW Championship sitting inside the top 10.
However, he is currently sitting outside the top 30 in the FedEx Cup points list, and he’ll need to shoot two or three-under par at least on Sunday, if he is to make the Tour Championship next week.
Fowler played superbly well last week at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, and he will need one final good round on Sunday if he is to tee it up in Atlanta in five days time.
The 36-year-old has started to find some form over the past couple of months or so, and he is beginning to look more like his old self.
However, the six-time PGA Tour winner still wasn’t entirely happy with his game after shooting 6 on Saturday at Caves Valley.
Rickie Fowler says what went wrong on day three at the BMW Championship
The man from Murrieta, California, is still hugely popular amongst the fans, so his presence at East Lake next week would be good for the PGA Tour.

However, he will have to sharpen up his swing between now and tomorrow evening if he is to have any chance of being in the Tour Championship field.
Fowler responded when asked what he wasn’t happy with about his swing on day three of the BMW Championship.
He said: “Yeah, just getting a little quick. Just timing and rushing a little bit. Yeah, kind of let it just get into a good position and I can — when I do that, I can go as hard as I want from there. But was just a little out of sync today.“
He then suggested that he actually likes the fact that he’s on the outside looking in on the top 30 heading into the final round.
Fowler explained: “Yeah, obviously have been trying to score and play as best I can. Haven’t made a whole lot. Made a few today, which was nice. Yeah, not in a bad spot. We obviously have a chance going into tomorrow. In a way, I’d much rather be on the outside looking in. I know what I need to go do, versus maybe being inside trying to protect type of thing.
“Go out and yeah, we’ll see if we can get things going and hopefully get off to a nice start and just play some good golf tomorrow.“
Rickie Fowler’s stats on day three of the BMW Championship
Fowler’s round of 67 on Saturday at Caves Valley was actually very impressive.
Here are his stats from day three:
| Stats | Fowler’s round three rank |
| Off the tee | 41 |
| Approach | 15 |
| Around the green | 5 |
| Putting | 3 |
| Total | T-4 |
Fowler clearly struggled off the tee at the BMW Championship on Saturday.
However, the rest of his game was in fine working order. If he improves his driving on day four, he may well have a tee time at East Lake next week.
