Rickie Fowler is back in action for the Sanderson Farms Championship this week after a break of almost three months.

The American is making his tournament debut in Jackson, Mississippi, having been off the course for some time after the recent birth of his second daughter.

Fowler last played at The Open Championship in July, where he finished in 71st after narrowly making the cut.

A major decision was then made by Fowler, who opted to accept his place well down the FedExCup standings as opposed to trying to fight for a play-off spot.

But the six-time PGA Tour winner will now be desperate to get back out playing as the FedExCup Fall series continues.

Rickie Fowler provides update on his game after lengthy break

It has been a tricky year so far for Fowler, who has failed to clinch a top-10 finish, with 14 of 20 cuts made.

Speaking in his Sanderson Farms Championship, the 35-year-old has now discussed where his game is at, saying: “I mean, as rusty as I can be with the two little ones at home, but it was definitely nice.

“Like I mentioned, we don’t get a whole lot of downtime when you’re playing through full seasons. To be there sleeping in the same bed for an extended period of time, no, it feels good to have that time off, kind of refresh, rebuild a bit.

“Excited to come back out. It was definitely a different feeling packing and getting ready to come here versus just going to another tournament. It kind of feels a little bit like a fresh start.

“Like I said, excited to kind of get back into it, just play a few events, the reminder of the fall and December, and get ready for next year.”

How has Rickie Fowler done in 2024 so far?

It remains to be seen what level of golf he will produce at the Sanderson Farms Championship, with Fowler admitting to putting struggles earlier this year.

It will likely take him some time to get up to full speed, regardless of how much practice he has been able to manage amid his busy schedule.

A superb win at last year’s Rocket Mortgage Classic helped bring an end to an unwanted drought, but he hasn’t been able to replicate that this year.

A T18 finish at the RBC Heritage is his best result of 2024, while the major championships didn’t exactly go to plan.

Along with his 71st finish at The Open, Fowler finished T30 at the Masters, T63 at the PGA Championship and missed the cut at the US Open.
