Rickie Fowler is once again in action as the FedEx Cup fall continues at the Shriners Children’s Open at TPC Summerlin.

The Las Vegas event is the second fall outing for Fowler, who played the Sanderson Farms Championship after a three-month layoff.

Fowler and Tom Kim are the highest-profile names in this week’s field, and Kim is looking to make history and become the first player to win a PGA Tour event three years in a row.

Fowler is currently inside the FedEx Cup 125 and is on track to earn a spot in the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.

Ahead of this week’s event in Nevada, the 35-year-old believes the current fall format could be changed.

Speaking during his press conference on Wednesday, Fowler predicted that further changes are likely to occur to the fall system.

“It’s had a few changes over the last few years, and it’s going to continue to change,” Fowler said. “I would say it’s a little hard to adapt to where we might be currently because that could be something that will change in the coming years.”

Fowler continued: “Really, at the end of the day, you play good golf, and all things kind of fall into place, and everything kind of gets answers. For me, with the fall and the year that I had, making sure that I stay inside the top 125, you know, so I’m in The Players and some other events, and being that I won last year, not necessarily having to worry about too much.”

I’ll be okay regardless for next year. I just want to get back to playing some good golf. There are benefits for me, obviously. Playing well; winning is a big bonus. So I think trying to get too caught up in the numbers, trying to break it down, and figuring out what you might need to do can get you lost in that a bit.”

Fowler returned to form at the Sanderson Farms Championship, finishing in a tie for 17th. It’s been a tough year for the 35-year-old, who currently sits 73rd in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Fowler has been struggling with the yips whilst putting, and the American currently ranks 102nd for strokes gained putting on tour.

Clearly, if improvement is to be made, Fowler must focus on the flat stick.

This week’s event at TPC Summerlin is another good chance for the six-time PGA Tour winner to return to the winners’ circle.

A weaker field and favourable course feel like the perfect recipe for Fowler. The 35-year-old last tasted victory at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic, where he won in a playoff.
