Golf as we know it is changing right before our eyes at the moment and Rickie Fowler has given his thoughts on the emergence of youth in the game.
Fowler, now 35, was once one of the young prodigies on the PGA Tour but as time has gone by, more and more young players seem to be emerging.
This weekend at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, 15-year-old Miles Russell has grabbed the headlines, while a host of other top young stars are doing well.
Both Nick Dunlap and Neil Shipley are not completely out of the running, while at the very top of the leaderboard, Akshay Bhatia is only 22.
It’s safe to say, then, that golf seems to be changing for the better and bringing in a younger and more vibrant audience and player along the way.
And asked specifically about that after his third round in Detroit, Fowler has compared things now to how they were when he made his breakthrough.

Rickie Fowler gives honest verdict on the youth in today’s golf
“Yeah…it just kinds of shows you the level of play and how the game keeps getting younger. I would say when I turned pro and my rookie year on tour there wasn’t as many young guys as there are now,” Fowler said.
“You know, guys who are just getting better and better earlier and there’s more of them who are capable and ready to play. But it’s good to see, fun to see and good to see kids come out and have success and have some fun with it.”
Players like Fowler are finding it harder and harder to win given the amount of talent out there right now.
As mentioned previously, the likes of Dunlap and Bhatia are superstars in the making while Miles Russell is already being billed as a future star.
And that’s without even taking into account how Charlie Woods might find himself on tour one day as well.
The game of golf, then, looks in good hands in terms of the player and fan coming through.
The next step is for LIV and PGA to get their act together so we see the very best together all the time and thus, continuing to bring in new fans.
